Re: Overtime
Were you working your rest day or was this in addition to your usual hours?

Re: Overtime
Unless you have a prior agreement in place all you can book is what it took, anything else could get you into serious trouble.

Re: Overtime
This was in addition to my usual hours.I have seen others book 3 hours for doing half the delivery but no prepping. It is a rural area so no managers are around to check

This question always has me confused.dante wrote:Hi,a query...i did overtime today. On a 6 hour duty,i prepped the frame and took out half the delivery another person took out the other half. How many hours should i have booked?

If it's your day off, and you start at 7:00 and finish at 13:00 thats 6 hrs overtime. If you finish at 14:00 thats 7 hrs overtime. Thats how its always worked at my office. Is there some other way of doing? Am I being ripped off? Is there an unofficial way of getting the time and a half that we should be getting for overtime, such as claiming for more than you've actually worked?

Re: Overtime
You can only book how long it took you, no more phantom overtime, you will get into trouble and your DOM will just look out for themselves in a push.

They'd be snowed under with cut off bags in our office if there was no phantom o/t. Re: Overtime
Before doing any overtime you should have an agreement in place as to how much they are going to pay you.

Re: Overtime
We've got a set rate for doing half a walk and a full walk. It varies based on whether or not you'd be working that day normally or not, and quite recently the amount was reduced, but even now, you could probably do a walk and a half in the time you're getting paid to do just one.

Re: Overtime
I did something similar today - however, I actually a full work on overtime as well as my walk. 1/2 a walk is 3 hours and a full work is 6 hours on overtime (+ own duty) regardless of who preps the walk.
The manager offered me 7.5 hours previously but as I was finishing he increased it to 8 hours. However, this probably for goodwill as we are desperately short and I have done loads of OT as well as helping with prepping and redirection; sometimes unpaid
So, if I were you, I will claim at least 1.5 hours for the prepping on top of the 6 hours.
I should like to add that overtime on top of your own duty is not just about how long the job takes: It should include additional break and an incentive for the inconvenience. And when on delivery OT should also include additional break, massive inconvenience and goodwill as well as cost of petrol and/or travel time.
So if half a walk takes about 1.50 hours to 2 hours then it should be about 3 hours paid.
Before anyone says, I am a mug or hero; I only do it for the money and to help junior managers and the really kind ones.

It is if you have no prior agreement...which the OP doesn't have.chrisj wrote:I should like to add that overtime on top of your own duty is not just about how long the job takes:.
Advising members to add a bit for inconvenience and petrol is a sure way to get them sacked.

You could always add another bit to cover the extra cost of insurance and wear and tear for using your own carchrisj wrote:I did something similar today - however, I actually a full work on overtime as well as my walk. 1/2 a walk is 3 hours and a full work is 6 hours on overtime (+ own duty) regardless of who preps the walk.

Re: Overtime
I always try to make it clear to visiting (often junior) managers what the deal is. Its not, can you please do a row for us - it shouldn't take more than 35 minutes...
What is he situation re:delivery overtime with Park and Loop and paired working? We have not had our revision yet. With late starts and having to work in pairs, how can one do overtime without re-jigging the jobs and the pairings; and working late into the evening. I guess, reserves and floaters must have an even more miserable time of things with P&L.
I suppose it will cover the issue of petrol money and wear + tear on own cars ;)
