whats the general feeling towards really slow postmen/women?

should younger/fitter/faster postmen have to help the other postie with their loops even if it gets to the extreme of having to help with 3 loops when you have totally finished and helping would put you over your time?

also in this scenario they are really really slow, slower than a week in the jail slow and also older and also a terrible planner and has no sense to keep the van in some sort of order.

im getting the feeling that younger posties are having to do more work because some are physically incapable of keeping a good pace ?

The work rate expected of any employee, notwithstanding medical conditions, should be achievable up to retirement age which is currently 66. If an employee cannot achieve this due to ill health then it is a matter for ATOS.

There is no doubt that being young and fit is an advantage for a physical job such as a delivery postperson but undertaking in excess of 50% of the workload should not become a regular occurrence if it did then offices would start buddying old and young together and resigns by seniority would disappear altogether.

my thoughts are the same .. i have been tested twice personally and i am working to the correct standard although certain duties inevitably will fail when im on them as they are well out of the correct delivery span BUT as a young person i have continually as well as many other younger posties have been taken into the office on a regular basis yet the "older" guys are left to their own devices i dont have any problems with anyone in my office and i do think that the standards are too high because we do have a majority of guys of the older persuasion that are just not capable of doing that pace


the thing i should add is I finished 15 mins later than when I should have finished on the street so helping him would have meant failing mail on a duty where there shouldnt be any failures as its a piece of p*ss

your right i shouldnt class people like i did so im big enough to say im a tw*t BUT i have to say i follow ALL the correct procedure LWT flicking through mail at the door ect because iv had problems with some duties that planners think are correct but trust me when i say this particular duty definitely works its well known in the office as one of the duties is really easy and the other was the shortest in the whole office before the revision so dont take this all the wrong way take out everything i said about older guys then ( just happens to be that way in my office ) but replace them with someone who is just generally slow at everything should the other postie be expected to pick up the slack ? also the postie i refer to is the driver who gets less mail and the duty rarely has over 5 large packets which i take if i can fit them in a bag so im already doing part of his duty every day ? and i have only done this duty twice EVER the other guy has had months on this one

On P/L the speed is determined by the Driver
You can be fast doing the walking part but if the driver takes his time at dropping off your loop bags it can slow you up bigtime.
I have 8 loops but if the driver is 5 to 10 minutes late each loop thats 40-60 mins and another loop cut off

can i just say when i used the terms younger/fitter/faster i meant them as separate examples not as a whole ie, being partnered with someone who is young but not in good shape (making them slow) and incapable of meeting the required pace
