Re: deputy manager roles
It pays well, involves bullying people, especially part time lower paid staff, giving people warnings for being genuinly sick, blaming people for having accidents that are not thier fault, saying yes to people above your chain of command that you hate, making people work very hard while you spend most of the day either smoking, drinking coffee or eating Greggs, or all three, fancy the job?international wrote:Hi Guys I just wanted to know abit more about the deputy manager role what it involves and most importantly what they pay all answers would be most welcomed sensible ones that is

Re: deputy manager roles
I'm not going to apply for either but what's the difference between an "acting manager" and a "deputy manager?"

Re: deputy manager roles
Deputy Managers are RM way of trying to get things done on the cheap.
Whilst I am sure there are people who enter RM management with genuine career aspirations and a with the best of intentions towards to staff they will manage there are endemic problems with a large proportion of those they will report to. There is still very much a blame culture within the business and those at the lower end of the food chain are ideal scapegoats often being new to the roles. Bullying and Harassment is now so widespread that it is almost a 'given' that junior managers will be expected to adopt this approach if they wish to role model those who are valued by MCMs and DSMs picking on those who are most vulnerable (Casuals/PT Staff). Bear in mind that most regions still have corrupt bullies at Director level and that the bullying of manager on manager is far more subtle and there is no real union to turn to.
Royal Mail needs a drains up restructuring of managerial resource but until those at the top take notice of the real issues of bullying and harassment the organisation will be split and continue work against itself. In the past postmen/women were slow to accept change and in places like London held onto outdated working practices ... there is now a willingness on the part of the frontline staff to try and move the organisation forward and it is the managers who are holding the business back with an unwillingness to take on board others' viewpoints.

Re: deputy manager roles
Personally if i needed the money i would do an extra shift once a week on OT as i think its less stress.
However the Dep Man may suit some folks who want to try something else
You will need a very thick skin though.

Better off doing 8 hours overtime...
Financially being a manager isn't worth it, When it's going smooth it's great, When it isn't it's a nightmare
