I have received a letter claiming back wages paid to me over a few years due to clerical error
in the wages office. What are my rights in this case? Has anyone come accross this before.

I don't know whether you will be liable to pay it all back but tell them you're skint and that you'll pay it a pound a week.

Sadly, they will reclaim the money, one way or another. You can choose the amount you repay each week/month, I think the minimum is £5. So you can get it cleared quickly or not so quickly. I would pay just the minimum as you Should Not have been over payed for years in the first place. Typical Royal Fail.

hi i was overpaid night shift allowance and didnt know i had.
royal mail took the money out of my wages without me being notified and i was left with 80pd for week
wages said tough luck
union said cant do nothing

This is wrong as I have dealt with several over payment issues.

What should happen is a manager should speak to you and see if you can come to an agreement on repayment and if you can't the default repayment of 10% of your net pay comes in.

Now I think the law says that they can only go back 5 years.

Was that just one week you were left with £80 This is a huge amount. Over 12,000 over a few years.

union said royal mail can do that reclaim the money the next week.
payment said on phone u shouldnt have spent it n saved it lol they not heard of trying to get by on our poxy wages

If you have been overpaid. Shouldn't you only be paying back the "NET" wage. The rest RM should be claiming back from the government shouldn't it?

wouldnt know it was just taken out of my wages n it was basically tough luck. both union and managers didnt care less.
