Definition is the key here. I get a bus into work and sometimes arrive five minutes early. It's open to debate whether I come in unpaid. As a general rule in most jobs I've ever had I tend to be 1 minute or 2 minutes early. In a literal sense I came in unpaid and continue to do so. Few people are late but there is one guy who comes in ten minutes late every day. Managers don't care - managers don't know. For what it's worth I also spend ten minutes every morning sitting about chatting and generally doing f*ck all. You could argue that's the take element of my accidentally giving them the odd minute here and there due to bus scheduling conflicts.

I'm going to guesstimate on this one and say about 75% come in early unpaid.

There is a local agreement, apparently (and this is according to all relevant parties seeing as I have brought it up with our representative, who is really rather good), whereby our duties are built on the proviso that meal relief is taken at the end. We do live in a bit of a slum and it is probably regarded as unduly dangerous to spend more than the necessary time out on the streets. Whether this is right or wrong is open to debate. I personally take my relief whenever I feel like it, although nowadays I tend to split it into two spells of 15 minutes, one in the middle and one at the end. This enables me to have two nice round meals throughout the day.

I would suggest, therefore, that the answer on this one is 99%.

We are pre-revision so I would suggest 90%. Some people do use lightweight trollies out of choice. I would personally broaden this question to ask what percentage of postmen do not use the equipment provided by Royal Mail to do the job. If that was the question I would approximate that about 50% do not, but that does include drivers who obviously have to. There are a few guys who use lightweight trollies, quite a few of the major town walks use HCTs, and there remains a small but significant minority who are saddled in.

Another broad question as it's a bit of a taboo subject in the realm of RM, and is especially clouded by the people who are particularly culpable in reference to the first question. If they come in half an hour early and finish twenty five minutes early, they never tell other people that they're struggling to finish. I can tell you that there are a lot of big rounds in our office which, when done properly, can necessitate booking overtime. Unfortunately due to cutting corners - by a variety of methods including using one's own car, carrying overweight (or in some cases, multiple) pouches, doorstepping packets and coming in early - it is impossible to gauge fully the number of individuals who are struggling to complete (not within their allotted time, but within paid hours). I would cautiously estimate that about 40% of our rounds are too big to complete on heavy days.
