RSI with L/W tolleys on P/L
I have been having RSI problems with my wrists using the l/w trolleys and I've only been doing p/l for 9 months .
The constant jarring of your wrist every time you go up and down curbs and bumps pulling up to 32kg including when you have to keep going into the road when people block the paths with vehicles and you have to go into the road to get round them.
They may be OK to pull around a flat golf course but up and down kerbs everyday doesn't do your wrists much good

I used a trolley for almost 6 years and never had a problem. Before that I used a pouch and am still bothered with my back.
You just need to slow down a bit. There is a reason it should take longer to deliver with a trolley, if you go at a slower pace then going up and down kerbs won't jar your wrists and shoulder.

What trolley you using a L/W trolley or a HCT because I used HCT's for years and they are OK

Re: RSI with L/W tolleys on P/L
I used a LWT. The problem, as far as I can see, is that it is assumed that as they only hold a max of 32kg, as opposed to the HCT (or carrying a pouch), then people are walking too quickly with them. They seem to forget that they are pushing twice as much mail that they carried but think they can go just as fast.
I'm sure that one of the reps will be able to explain it better than I can, but your round should have been mapped at a speed reflective of the delivery method, then again this is RM and the computer never, ever says "no".
Before our revision, the round I did with a lwt took me 3 hours, it was assessed using georoute, and walk tested and it still came in at 3 hours. Post revision, the round was unchanged, but it now apparently takes 3 hours 45mins (p&l).
The biggest problem I had using a trolley was when pushing it, the front leg would stick on the ground or a kerb and the handle would spear me in the 'tenders'!

Ask any medical expert and you should push a trolley. RM only want you to pull them because it is quicker. You can pull a trolley down or up a kerb. You can only push a trolley down one. You need to turn it around to pull it up. Hence takes that little bit more time.

The planners also seem not to understand the concept of inertia. They seem to think that as soon as you grab the handle of a fully laden trolley (European, not African), you immediately accelerate to 4 mph, and immediately decelerate to nought when you reach the next delivery point. Remember, planners, v = u +at

you can argue push or pull. the fact is they are designed to be pulled.

We had a WTL about them and talk about mixed messages and patronising, however, they did state in the Video and practical than it should be pulled except when going down a steep hill when they should be pushed.

Re: RSI with L/W tolleys on P/L
correct, this is obviously common sense though, if you pull it downhill chances are it will roll off down the slope when you are at someones door. pushing downhill ensures the brake/stand stops it from buggering off

That's strange, the WTL we had said the opposite. They should be pushed, except when going up steep hills when they should be pulled. Something about not pulling your shoulder muscles. Amazing that RM can't even be consistent with their bull****.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:We had a WTL about them and talk about mixed messages and patronising, however, they did state in the Video and practical than it should be pulled except when going down a steep hill when they should be pushed.

In use
Users are responsible for operating the LWT safely, correctly and in accordance with the methods demonstrated during training, in particular;
1 When unfolding or folding the LWT keeping fingers clear of the pinch points between moving parts.
2 Wearing the correct outdoor footwear.
3 The LWT is designed to be pulled and must only be pushed when going down hill.
4 Keep the road ahead under observation when pushing in order torecognise hazards in sufficient time.
5 Be aware of pedestrians, prams, pushchairs wheelchairs and other pavement users.
6 Ensure the parked LWT does not represent a danger or obstruction for other road users or pedestrians.
7 In adverse weather conditions (ice, snow, and slippery conditions) the LWT must only be used on cleared surfaces and with extra care.
8 The foot of the trolley must be positioned to prevent the trolley running away when left on slopes.
9 Do not attempt to mount or dismount kerbs which are higher than 100mm (4 inches).
10 Avoid going up and down kerbs wherever possible by using lowered access points.
11 When loading the folded LWT into a vehicle the correct method is to lift by the handle supporting the underneath of the LWT before placing it into the agreed storage space in the vehicle with the wheels always going in first.

no curbs round our way thay low
10 Avoid going up and down kerbs wherever possible by using lowered access points. Are they having a laugh

Agreed storage space , there is just about enough room for the bags and parcels
