royal mail identified the way we deliver mail is going to change (and has already) in the future with less letters and more packets to deliver, so they knew they would have to take the weight off the shoulder, so PARK AND LOOP was introduced, but, as with so many ideas that come from the senior managers in Royal Mail, by the time these ideas trickle down to area managers and doms, they seem to change, these managers seem to think PARK AND LOOP is a excuse to cut hours out of delivery offices, when the opposite is needed. To do PARK AND LOOP, you need to cut delivery spans as getting in and out of vans to do shorter loops must take longer, ie, 20 bags on a delivery means stopping and starting 20 times, seat belts on, getting bags out, moving van, this must take 2-3 mins every time, so that's 40-60 mins added on every duty, if I can see this, why can't they.?????

Plus those bloody bag hooks are useless on the L/W trolleys .
You hook the bags on and if one bag is heavy it rubs against the wheel and you can't keep adjusting bag straps every time you hook up

But you no longer need dedicated packet duties, conveyance or second wallet duties.
This is where they thought they would make savings.

but being a driver i am not allowed to say nothing and everything
is going great with no problems.

Why do you think we now have loops of over 200 del points and rostered for about an hour !

Well with a p+l duty they immedaitly save hours for a packet driver, with 2 people doing 3 peoples work

that's exactly it, they should have put the hours they saved from the packet/bag drop duties back into the park and loop, typical managers, thought they could save hours, now they are scratching their heads, why is this not working............ hello you have cut too many hours, nothing changes within royal mail!!!!

It's not working very well in my office, packets is the main problem. If there's too many packets then your f****d and stand no chance of completing. Me and my Park n Loop partner have found a way of making our duty work within our hours, without cutting corners and on most days provided the packets aren't too heavy. What we do is park the van in a central spot for one half of the duty and work from the van and then move it to a central spot on the other half of the duty and work from the van again.

When we first started it was rubbish, constantly moving the van after each loop struggling to find anywhere to park! We found that by only moving the van less (instead of after every loop) we saved enough time so that we were able to complete, unless we get hammered with packets. We try to do most of the large packets and specials we can't do by 1pm before we start the Loops so the first 30min roughly is spent with us doing big packets and specials. We also have two van keys so are able to work from the van without having to wait for each other.

Thing is, its all stop and start, you cant get going so it takes longer to do the round...Nobody has completed a full delivery yet as in our office we only work ours hours. Two to three bags have been dropped each day for the line manager to take.
