failed test letter

dom informed me this morning that there had been two 'failed test letters' on my frame a couple of weeks ago, when my regular p&l partner was on holiday and a right muppet was on with me.

regular partner reckons nowt to do with me as i don't prep the frame as a part-timer.

what's the mechanism of it all; how a test letter works and how a 'fail' is incurred?

My understanding of test letters is this.
A letter with a RF transmitter comes into your office, if your office is like mine, above the exit doors is a scanner,which when the letter enters your office it detects the RF transmitter in the test letter, and is scanned,if that letter does not go out the same day it has failed.

that's more or less what my p&l partner reckons.

not my fault then, as i can't take out what isn't prepped. i'm guessing the letter concerned got mis-sorted at some point then.

About two years ago I had a test letter fail on my duty. My manager asked me why it had failed. Given the job involves delivering in the range of a thousand letters a day and I was being asked to recall a date two weeks prior I had to say I had no idea, because if I could spot a test letter that would defeat the purpose of the test. I was tempted to say it was because of management's preferred method of clearing the office during a random inspection - hiding stuff.

The issue never came up again, so don't worry.

I get a letter every couple of months telling me that I passed.............don't know when I delivered it, all I know is I clear my frame every morning and make sure the missort frame is cleared on my way out the door.

Problem is the old way one person would have prepped and delivered the frame.
Now on P/L if you are a part timer ,one person throws your walk off then I would come in and throw some more off, then when you have to do your 30 minutes doing IPS your partner on P/L does it so thats 3 people so who's at fault

always wondered what these "do not redirect" letters were… good to know i've shifted loads of them, to put a missed one in context.

now, do i say to dom i know what these things are and am not so stupid to leave one in the frame?

The DNRs could be for anything, tax, housing benefit, or anything else deemed worthy so they might not all be test letters.

My understanding of Test Letters is to test the quality of service, it gives statistics to the business who then report these findings to the Regulator, I don't think this information is designed for a single delivery.

Aye but does it get scanned again when brought back because it was mis-sorted then taken out next day then brought back again because it was mis-sorted again, and so it goes on.
