Having an operation

I've got to have an operation and I was wondering what kind of provision is in place in terms of getting time off. I'm going to need at least three days, possibly more. One for the operation, and then however long it takes to recover. It's not life threatening and it doesn't threaten my ability to walk, but apparently there is a lot of associated pain afterwards and it would be in my best interests not to return to work as it will likely aggravate the wound/stitches, meaning a return to hospital.

Don't really want to use annual leave, either.

You are entitled to sick leave, with full pay. Don't come back too early, contact ATOS, and take no c***p from manager's. Sick pay will be paid for 6 months full pay, then 6 months halve pay. Hope the op goes well.

dont worry about it 6 months full pay and dont rush back , i was off with 5 mth with a umbilical hernia and got all my leave back what i had booked and dont let them try and get you back early , all the best for your op.

I've found my manager very good when it comes to things like this, usually for the dates covering hospital visits/operations you get special leave then just keep them updated on how your doing, I haven't had more than a week off due to hospital however also the advice above is excellent, good luck with your op!

The operation's changed now - no knife used, it's just a quick pop in and out. I had it done this year and was back at work on a bike the next morning. Probably could've swung a few days off if I'd asked but it really wasn't needed. The wonders of modern technology, eh?
