Park & Loop Advice Cutting Off
We started Parl & Loop 3 weeks ago and we've had issues since day 1 with the planners times, we completed the routes for the 1st week and a half. The issues we have are we can never complete on time, so in the 1st week I explained to the planners the issues regarding the time issues. He told me to time the loops which I did and the loop times are all over the place and over their times. The planner said have you tried to do it another way and we said yes the issue in my walk as I'm the driver they haven't accounted for the amount of stairs approaching the properties, we are knackered by the time we get onto my walk. The planner was off on holiday and pulled me into his office and talked to me like I was a little school boy about the times, I explained that everyone that has been on the walk has the same time issues and just left him to get on with making a mess elsewhere.
So after a week and a half me and my full time partner decided enough was enough and we weren't working past our finish time as it isn't do-able so we've been leaving the last 3 loops in as we know roughly where we can get to for our finish time. As we've been leaving the same 3 loops in my line manager pulled us into the office and said we can't do it and started going on about mail flow blah blah. I'm contemplating refusing to drive as it's not worth the agro and we are taking our break and leaving at our dispatch time, whilst others leave 1 hr before dispatch. Where do I stand why should I complete the run if we proved in the 1st week it can't be done in the alloted time.

Re: Park & Loop Advice Cutting Off
stick to your guns and ask them to test the walk .
Dont start early and take your meal relief and work to your time and cut off.
If they start giving you grief, ask them to put it in writing
Dont worry over half of the walks on P/L are timed wrong and take longer than the computer says as the Georoute software is out of date and definatly not accurate

Simple answer. Ask him what his solution is,since you are unable to work over your time.

The funny thing is our planner used to be a postman, apparently we are going to get tested I seen the mess they made in Dundee and I can see it happening at our office. The managers don't have a scooby doo, I could work on but I agreed not to as did my colleague, they want us to run out the door not talking meal relief hence they see it as 2 or 3 loops done. I changed the loops left in today and still got pulled, I used to be a manager in my former job and have never seen such a bunch of work shy lazy buggers.

Re: Park & Loop Advice Cutting Off
We had the same problem in our office the loops were duties were far to big using the trolleys so eventually after cutting off repeatedly they took away 3 loops and the duties worked fine only on the very odd occasion did we do overtime, then we got another planner and a different manager dealing with P&L we all got called up for our 'advice' as they wanted to put the 3 loops back, your input is needed as is your advice, ok we told them its working now if you add these loops it won't work simple as that. This advice was completly ignored of course as its not what they wanted to hear, the problem is there is a high amount of students packets are through the roof we tried to explain but all on deaf ears, if we leave all large packets duty takes you t around 4pm. What amazes me is when the previous planner worked out one of the loops they were equal in time and size according to georoute then the new planner moves 5 terraced houses from one loop to the other and this created 15 minutes for packets ....just goes to show how much they can fiddle with this perfect system to get the outcome that they want, ask a manager how long 5 terraced houses take to deliver ...about 30 seconds to a minute maybe? Well georoute can create a magic 15 mins from this just by moving 5 houses from one loop to the other ....what chance do we have?

Sorry for spelling etc writing this on my phone, I also don't see any benefit from being a driver as a driver your expected to be responsible for near everything security, specials being on time etc etc all you do as a passenger is collect your bags and walk off. I believe the whole P&L thing is very one sided where responsibility is concerned.

No it's not, it's really should be that both partners take equal share of the workload and responsibility, I think that too many people are still too interested in themselves and doing as little work as possible when they should just be working together to complete the hours they are being paid to do.Jynxx wrote:Sorry for spelling etc writing this on my phone, I also don't see any benefit from being a driver as a driver your expected to be responsible for near everything security, specials being on time etc etc all you do as a passenger is collect your bags and walk off. Management will try and intimidate you but stick to it and do the job properly. The planner will eventually depart to ruin some other office and management should realise the only option is to reinstate walks that were taken out by the revision. Hence my office now has a few solo P&L duties
The machine stops.

Re: Park & Loop Advice Cutting Off
I agree but sadly sometimes it's not the case, you don't half meet some people who are only out to help themselves, for example i frequently notice the driver bags are stuffed full of packets and mail, (from your partners duty) and the passenger loops barely a bag full, when you go and collect the larger packets after bagging up etc lo and behold there is a huge amount of passenger parcels, been moaned at for not parking literally on the doorstep of the passenger loop, moaned at for giving the passenger things like business mail (driver should take that moan moan) I have done both sides of the loops due to the loops being recently revised I used to get back to the van before the passenger on the original loop and been forced to drive around doing packets while i wait for them, now i do what used to be the passenger loop and the same thing is happening, The driver is told to del packets instead of wait around the passenger can sit on their backside if waiting for the driver however.DGP1 wrote:No it's not, it's really should be that both partners take equal share of the workload and responsibility, I think that too many people are still too interested in themselves and doing as little work as possible when they should just be working together to complete the hours they are being paid to do.Jynxx wrote:Sorry for spelling etc writing this on my phone, I also don't see any benefit from being a driver as a driver your expected to be responsible for near everything security, specials being on time etc etc all you do as a passenger is collect your bags and walk off. There has only been a couple of people who have tried to help the driver and we actually worked as a team but these are far and inbetween.
Anyways sorry for moaning...just getting tired of it all, I get told one thing from one manager on how P&L can be done (example you can use a small bag when faced with steep inclines and loop from the van) then another manager walks along and says your not allowed to do this and you'll be suspended for doing so

Re: Park & Loop Advice Cutting Off
I posted about this a while ago as we also have way too many people inside that seem to do nothing more than have their fingers up their arses till its time to go home (early). OPGs are being hammered left right and centre yet managers over staffing just seem to be getting worse by the week.custard wrote:cinemasaint wrote:The funny thing is our planner used to be a postman, apparently we are going to get tested I seen the mess they made in Dundee and I can see it happening at our office. That's what happens in my office, no matter who is on the duties, each will help the other because it's not worth the complaints if they don't pull their weight.Jynxx wrote:I agree but sadly sometimes it's not the case, you don't half meet some people who are only out to help themselves, for example i frequently notice the driver bags are stuffed full of packets and mail, (from your partners duty) and the passenger loops barely a bag full, when you go and collect the larger packets after bagging up etc lo and behold there is a huge amount of passenger parcels, been moaned at for not parking literally on the doorstep of the passenger loop, moaned at for giving the passenger things like business mail (driver should take that moan moan) I have done both sides of the loops due to the loops being recently revised I used to get back to the van before the passenger on the original loop and been forced to drive around doing packets while i wait for them, now i do what used to be the passenger loop and the same thing is happening, The driver is told to del packets instead of wait around the passenger can sit on their backside if waiting for the driver however.DGP1 wrote:No it's not, it's really should be that both partners take equal share of the workload and responsibility, I think that too many people are still too interested in themselves and doing as little work as possible when they should just be working together to complete the hours they are being paid to do.Jynxx wrote:Sorry for spelling etc writing this on my phone, I also don't see any benefit from being a driver as a driver your expected to be responsible for near everything security, specials being on time etc etc all you do as a passenger is collect your bags and walk off. Is there anything like that anywhere??
And as for moaning, if nobody moaned on this site then it there would be very few postings, just look back over my postings to see one of the biggest moans on RMC

Re: Park & Loop Advice Cutting Off
My partner takes all the specials before 1pm, tracked and large packets that can delivered so we can manage the time efficiently. 1 of his loops he uses the box that was on his run so he spilits his bag up and uses the box but the planners have designed the walks in such a way you can't use the boxes. Where other duties can still be done of boxes. How daft are planners really our 2 walks are together would it not have made sense to leave his walk the original way it was I take his specials and large packets he can't manage and do my own walk and double back and we help each other out?. One of the loops is an estate he never delivered to and I brought up that he never had to deliver to it and asked if it had been accounted for oh yes yes was his answer. Sometimes he takes slightly longer to do his loop than mine so I'll go ahead and do one of the shorter loops and he'll do his small loop with a slightly bigger one and I can go get the bigger packets and do the end of his loop and pick him up. They've got dead walking going up a drive way crossing the street and then going back across the road and up the same driveway to do the neighbours house feckless planners. I was going to sort the sequence so it made sense my union rep told me to leave it as it's their problem to fix however I tie it up to suit us.

Re: Park & Loop Advice Cutting Off
The planners were right to design the loops without the use of pouch boxes because it's a delivery methods revision so you should be using delivery methods not bags and boxes.
The boxes will disappear when ROMEC eventually get round to it anyway.
