Wallington week

Post by hampshireman »

I know it's an often asked question.. but I will ask and know that I'll get a response (thanks)

My DOM has offered a Wallington week system , if i can get 5 others to buy in. I think I can. I just need to fully understand exactly how it works.

I believe that (or my questions are)

1. Works on a system that you work 6 days per week for five weeks and then have the 6th week off

2. Your weeks holiday would therefore be 6 days

I can't see any problems ; if the above is true

The benefirt for me would be that we can actually plan for holidays. (and that would make my wife very happy)

yeah our office loves wallington, but i know alot of people who said they'd struggle to work 6 days on the trot for 5 weeks in a row. this is the reason why alot of offices dont do wallington. other issues, i think it effects A/L entitlement because it takes giving up more days to get a full week off i.e. 6 days not 5

it is great to have a week off every 6 weeks but the holiday policies can make things more difficult when you want to book a day off. downside it is not nice to work 48hours a week roughly.

Most of my office are on a Wallington Week and a lot said they won't go back now. You work 6 days for 5 weeks, remember you only get paid for 5 day week. On a Wally Week you do 43hrs 48 mins as opposed to a 39hr week on a 5 day.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Sounds too good to be true. :nana :nana
.
Discover Wallington, much-loved home to generations of the unconventional Trevelyan family.
Visit the impressive, yet friendly house, and explore the history of Northumberland in the huge pre-Raphaelite paintings around the remarkable Central Hall. Be inspired by the beautiful furniture, family paintings and treasured collections.
The Trevelyans loved being outdoors and close to nature and the house is surrounded by an informal landscape of lawns, lakes, woodland, parkland and farmland, just waiting to be explored.
There is even a beautiful walled garden hidden in the woods, a colourful haven of tranquillity in all seasons.
Don't miss
■Relax, picnic or play in the grassy courtyard
■Marvel at Lady Wilson's Cabinet of Curiosities
■Look out for woodpeckers at the wildlife hide
■See our fascinating collection of dolls' houses
■Stretch your legs with a walk on the extensive estate
■Let off steam in the adventure playground
:Very Happy

Can I take it then that because you've had to use six days leave to take a week off that they pay you six days wages while you're off? Sounds a bit fishy to me.
Yes they do.
5 days pay and a day banked for your rest week.
We've had Wallington's for 9 years since SDD and in that time no-one has moved off them.
As has been said before though it is a six day week for 5 weeks and with park&loop and longer deliveries that is tough.
Balanced against a 1 in 6 day off scheme it's a no-brainer,against a 1 in 4,4 day week or 9 day fortnight it's not that great.

Yep, you lose a week. Sounded like a con when I first signed into it but its not.

97gaz wrote:Still not clear to me. I buy up to the max six weeks leave or 30 days. I have to book 5 days to get a week off. Are you saying that under the Wallington system I would need to book six days leave for a week off and therefore only have five weeks annual holiday?
The wallington system works by banking your rest day for 5 weeks and then using them all at once to give you a rest week.
To do this you have to work your rest day.
If you book six days for annual leave one of those days is banked into your rest week,so your rest week will consist of 4 banked rest days and a days annual leave.
It sounds complicated but it isn't really, the bottom line is you don't lose any annual leave at all,it's just moved into your rest week.

Yes you are....and that includes A/L weeks which is why you have to use 6 days A/L.
On the day off scheme you work 30 days over 6 weeks(5 days times 6 weeks).
On the wallington scheme you work 30 days over 6 weeks(6 days times 5 weeks plus a week off).
If you only used 5 days annual leave for a week you would only work 29 days over 6 weeks.
(6 days times 4 weeks plus 5 days annual leave plus a week off)

This is an option on the table at our place and a few are interested. Thanks for clearing it up. I think I'll just stay the way I am though. Don't know if I could face six days every week.
My office we are all on the onbe week off in six, wouldnt give it up for anything its one of the few good things left. The way i look at it is working 5 day week you get a "random" day midweek you dont really do anything with, so working 6 days the sixth week you have off you can enjoy a lot more than a single day . Also look at it another way i get 12 full weeks off a year 8 duty weeks and 4 annual leave does that make it sound more appealing?

its also better for the reserves; they should get to stay on the same walk for the whole week!
