Dear Colleague
Royal Mail Reorganisation
Royal Mail is today briefing managers on changes to the structure of the business. A copy of the management briefing is attached.
The current regional structure will be replaced, effective from August, with five geographical areas:
North - Director Gerry O'Rourke
East - Director Rob Jenson
West - Director Stuart Simpson
South East - Director Steve Cameron
South West - Director Tony Fox
See attached map.
Each geographical area will have an operational management team comprising of 4 Delivery Directors and a Processing Director. DSMs will report directly to a Delivery Director - the lead DSM role with cease to exist. Collections will transfer to the processing function. There is no change to the existing Network and Logistics structure.
The new management roles will be populated between now and the end of July.
The Union has been assured that there is no direct impact on CWU represented grades. Industrial relations interfaces will remain as at present until the new management teams are in place. CWU - Royal Mail interfaces at national level remain unchanged.
Further information will be provided to Branches in due course. Any enquiries relating to the general position should be directed to DGS (P) Department, enquiries relating to specific functional issues should be directed to the relevant Assistant Secretary.
Yours sincerely
Ray Ellis

That would be a bad move, a very bad move in my opinion.

At the moment when suspending someone with a view to dismissal they seem to drag it out, to move that decision to a higher level would make the process even more laborious and difficult for the person suspended.

What they need to do is get Managers who can lead rather than manage. They need to give their managers some people skills and believe it or not I think they also need to give Managers, even at Line level, more authority to make decisions rather than tick boxes, and more independence.

Get rid of this top down command and control style of management and I think the bully boy tactics will quickly fade (though not disappear) and more beneficial to us, it will reduce the managerial head count substantially.

I wouldn't want a manager who had no idea of the situation or person involved making the decision to dismiss.
That would lead to a box ticking, mechanistic approach with no come back because a remote manager does not have to face the rest of the office.
If you put a bully in that position you have a recipe for disaster.
Decent managers will have a connection with their staff and are much less likely to dismiss without considering the personal consequences.

They need to give their managers some people skills
or even some brains, they are failed posties who lick up to the boss and like to chat for hours on end drinking coffee , bringing printed orders and new ideas round, sign this , sign that, do that and i'll tell etc. Get rid of them all , train team leaders within our teams who go delivering with us , keep one manager , a dom support and a phg indoors. That's all we need. :cuppa
Why are lino's paid full-time ??
