Sorry - No Keys ...

... the perennial lament from our "cage" and the one big thing that REALLY hacks me off as a floater/spare. Next job is either find someone who knows the walk (but they've often already buggered off out before even the p/ters get going/arrive) - or find correct van driver and beg steal borrow their keys (which means YOU have to drop the bags off - and waste even more time - we still go out in taxis - this of course assumes you've got some idea where the pouch boxes are - not always the case on a "new" walk !) - today was a typical "no key" day - and with tomorrow being "day off" I had to get back to DO to return keys (a 25 minute walk at the end of a bloody hot day - no direct bus route back !). Is it any wonder I end up delivering first letter - after doing lapse - at about 1130 (1000 starter). Why do peeps think the keys belong to THEM ... and not to the walk ?? Grr ...

This is my daily experience, one set of keys for the walk holder who wont relinquish them, one set for the regular cover who also wont part with them and none for the poor float/chump. And get this i ALWAYS return the keys even if the next day is my day off. And seeing as the guy who's keys i borrrowed yesterday will be gone before i arrive this morning, i took them back when i finished yesterday. Chump i am.

an almost daily problem for me, no keys for the pouch box so constantly having to call the office a wait for my next bag. Or, even more annoying, ending up with the spare hcts that don't lock or have fooked brakes, or the bikes with no gears, brakes,stands or panniers. Grrrrrrrrrrrr

The lads in my office went out only to discover the entire pouch box had gone. Not one, ALL
of them. Romec took them away because they thought park and loop had been brought in...
It hasen't, Not in the area they took the pouch boxes!!

Everyone was leaving as i arrived this morning, no note on the frame as to what d2d needed doing and more importantly NO KEYS AGAIN. The driver left without my bags within 10 minutes of me starting. Had to wait ages for him to arrive at my 1st pick up point with the bags and lend me his keys, took them back to the office after i finished. Didnt look as if anyone was going out to get a set cut even though i'd went the extra mile returning the keys in good time.

There's one easy stress free solution to all this, tell a manager, get him to sort it out, it's not your job to go hunting for keys, they should be in the Cage, if they aren't it's not your problem.

Thats the point they are not YOUR keys, they belong to RM and should be returned to the locker at the end of duty, full stop.

This is one of the rules we all go on about working to, you can't pick and choose which ones to work to .... or can you ?.

I bet you'd soon start handing them in if you got a phone call from a manager at 6am on your day off, demanding you bring them in.

Nope they are MY keys, I paid for them. I got copies done because RM only had one set of the keys for the flats, I kept one set and gave the other set to the rest day cover; the RM set stayed in the office and were lost when a floater used them. I've offered to get another set cut but RM won't pay for it.

What's unbelievable about that? Lots of people get their own sets of keys because the office ones are constantly being lost, in our office at least it's usually a floater or spare who's done the delivery when they disappear.

It's another reason why P&L is better. All vans + keys returned at the end of the walk, no pouch box keys to go missing, no waiting for drivers to bring bags.

so they have to 'guess' where/when
so either plenty of waiting around or them waiting on you.
either cut off or claim healthy docket (the former is my choice)
