we have our union rep/area rep and area manager /dom in today and they have decided to cut two staff.
How do they choose who to cut?
I know they will be cutting the people on rolling temp contracts but is it done on seniority/whoevers contract finishes first/who knows the least amount of rounds/whos had the most complaints?

Re: Cutting staff
I would assume it's the first contracts to finish that go first but knowing RM they could pick a number at random and then throw it in the air and whatever snail reaches the computer first will be the winner or loser..........I think I've confused myself now

Re: Cutting staff
so someone who knows 10 rounds and been there for 2 years could go before someone who knows 1 round and been there 4 months since the latters contract ends latest.
In our office we have 7 in rolling temp contracts, 5 have been there for 1-2 years, the other less than a year and last 3 months, one has been there for 2 years has been suspended before with a 2 year warning.

Them - depending on what the warning was for but I think they are probably the obvious target if they go on anything except end of contract or seniority.Stella102 wrote:has been there for 2 years has been suspended before with a 2 year warning.
To be honest as Royal Mail do not usually cut people, but remove duties, then it could go any of the 3 ways.
Seniority - Last in - First Out.
Date of current contract expiration date. Basically keep everyone on till the end of their contracts so the first one whose contracts ends goes.
Record - Who was most flexible, had least complaints etc - basically anything that can be measured against another so they get a picture of who they think is best to keep on.
Basically, there are benefits and drawbacks in RMs eyes to all of them and its doubtful any of them are illegal or unfair in the eyes of an ET.
However, what's most likely to happen is those that are left at the end will probably be offered a permanent contract if there are any vacancies that remain unfilled after transfers, VR or EVRs. The ones that are "let go" will probably be given the notice as per agreements and their contracts.

Re: Cutting staff
When I first started I mis-delivered a letter so went to tell the DOM with the idea that I'd be suspended or fired what with being on 6 months probation....
DOM says and I can quote exactly what he said "Don't worry about it but DON'T DO IT AGAIN!!... the ONLY to way to get sacked at RM is to nick or fight"
Times are a changin'
