I'm a newbie been here about 8 weeks or so, so far so good but I've done something stupid today and now worried to death :(

I was non driver on park and loop and bags were prepared as I was out doing my bit of round so really didn't have a clue about mis sorts that were picked up on way out of office this morning. the postie I was out with knows I am new and was doing everything for me in regards to getting my bags ready for next bit of park and loop.

When we get back to depot the postie i was with put the mis sorts in my bag and said we can't leave them on frame put them back in system (post box) so that's what I have done about 20 letters posted in to mailbox. now since reading these forums i kind of understand that it is wilful delay and I'm gonna get sacked for it :(

Don't know why I listened to postie who told me to do this but i did and now I am worried sick to the point i can't think about anything else.

I have Line managers mobile telephone number and feel like i should confess to doing this but not sure if this would make it worse and i also don't want to drop anyone else in the s**t

please help a very very worried newbie :(

As long as you have endorsed them with for enquiry and signed and put the date and pouched them off with the walk number they'll come back ok, I don't see it being an issue.

You could have left them on the frame and told someone, that way it's the managers problem once they've been told. If they want you to go out again or send someone else it's up to them providing you finished early enough to do it.


As for being found out very very very very unlikely just in future ask the manager what should I be doing with missorts as a new starter, how can you personally as a manager and take care of it or tell me to take them out the next day.

I feel like i have been there 8 weeks and been shown nothing about what the procedures are for different things.
Such as this week i have found out from another postie that we should no longer be leaving tracked in safeplace and should be leaving them a form left card? and i have been told off for using too many redirection stickers had about 8 letters that needed to be redirected no one had told me to use a bag and one sticker? just simple things but no one tells me anything :(

If I do get pulled by manager about postbox incident should i explain or would i just dig a bigger hole for myself?

My advice, get on here whenever you can and read as many posts and comments as you can, al the info does soak in to the grey cells and it helps alot - dont be afraid to ask questions, among the sarky replies you will get some very good answers.

As for you problem with the letters, Im a believer in honesty is the best policy BUT I also believe you are only guilty if you get caught. If it were me, I would keep my powder dry, my mouth shut and my head down. If someone else is getting into trouble over it, then that is different and you need to fess up. In my experiance you dont wake the dragon to ask him if you can go into his cave - old proverb but it works well.

I will take your advice I think this forum is brilliant as you say you find out so much from here

I will ask a few questions to work place coach when i'm back on duty next week just to clarify a few things to procedures i should be using see if i get anywhere

willfull delay... is willfull... they got to prove you did it, willfully.

No they don't.
They just have to show that it was reasonable to assume it was wilful.
That's a whole different scenario.

As for the OP...it's 50/50 whether he fesses up or not but remember two things.
1.Mail that is re-introduced into the system without endorsement is almost always spotted at some point,it isn't often acted on but you have to understand that DSA sticks out like a sore thumb if it's coming through the normal collection system.
2.Making a mistake is unlikely to be gross misconduct.....dishonesty is.

If you are going to keep quiet about it...be prepared to get called on it.

Your mistake isn't huge and to be honest it isn't even your mistake,it's a training failure.
I can't tell you what to do because i don't know what kind of manager you have or what kind of rep you have.
If you were in my office being honest would be the correct advice,other offices....?

If you're really worried then on Monday go to your manager and ask him what is the proper procedure for missorts, it's really their job to train you properly.


ps. Don't worry about things, especially on a Saturday night, RM is a day away so relax and enjoy the sun

I want to be honest about it but i also don't want to get sacked over it.

I think the whole training issues at my office are shocking!

The problem is i'm not in now till end of week so i can't ask anyone.

I'm gonna speak to union rep on thurs about it and go forward from there

20 letters is a lot its up to the collections officer to decide if to tell them dom or not
