How secure are HCT's ?

Has anyone noticed the flaw in security of the locking mechanism with the HTC's???
If you pull the lid handle sharply to the left the lid springs open with out need of the key.
Surely someone higher up the foodchain has already spotted this?? We have told our DOM
and apparently he has fired of an email to make his boss aware of the situation. I bet they
just ignore it though.

The problem I found with them was that when they were overladen and squashed shut they used to ping back open on occasions.
Cant use them anymore anyway on P/L because you would need two HCT's for one walk

Thats interesting as ive never tried that

I know the glue gives out on the handles and they are forever springing out. Could be a good back up plan if you lose the key though. I will give it a try when iamback in.

Can't say I have spotted this either - I will definitely have a go at it tomorrow! I do slam it shut so I don't need to check twice because I have accidentally left it open without realising when it's near capacity.

What concerns me is if someone breaks into it whilst unattended.
We have been told we can leave it out of our site for 10mins and i know for a fact
that a number of my colleagues will leave them for longer.
I tried it again after i got back to the office and it only took a couple of secs to open.
Perhaps someone on here will know where we stand if something goes missing?????

I was due to trial one a few years ago and I raised the question of security with my rep. He said that as long as I followed RM's guidelines regarding leaving them unattended (no more than 10 minutes, locked etc) then any problems would be RM's as he had written assurance from the DOM that that would be the case.

If anyone is experiencing problems with any equipment, then you should inform your rep ASAP, as well as your manager.

The new plastic are useless, all of ours have at least one dodgy wheel that likes to rattle around like a supermarket trolley.

The older ones are very cumbersome.

I'm always leaving mine for longer than ten minutes because the paths and footways I have to cope with on my walk are terrible to push a pram along, let alone a HCT weighing in at around 100kg.

I was told you could leave them for 20 mins as long as you leave it chained up somewhere secure but a colleague discovered this fatal security flaw the very first day we had the trolley's. As for the wonky wheels, bit scary when your pushing along to have your trolley suddenly veer off to the left, straight off the pavement into the path of an oncoming vehicle not to mention the bad back your going to get because the bloody thing wont travel in a straight line. Did i mention the fun to be had when you leave it braked, only to see it free-wheel away once you've walked away from it.

The locks are especially crap on the HCT's if you keep slamming the lid it will break the lock and eventually wear away hct frame where lock connects.

Used to leave mine for up to 45 mins a few years back. Locked up of course.

What is the point of using a trolley when this condition is set in place :

Where the trolley is left unattended for more than 10 minutes, ALL mail, must be removed. The trolley must be chained to an immovable object e.g. This may occur where a multi level delivery point (e.g. Tower Blocks) is at the end of a delivery. If mail to be removed exceeds RM Health and Safety guidelines for single pouch weight limits equipment used must be reviewed.

Because you aren't meant to use it as a mobile pouch box.
Most of the delivery is meant to be done directly from the HCT with only small,less than 10 minute loops where direct delivery is not possible.

only ever seen people use it has a huge cumbersome mobile pouch box, doing 30-40 min loops from it..
