Strike Action....Please read.

Hi,

I currently work in an office in Herts, where a strike is on the cards. The office has about 250 people working in it at the moment, and out of that about 25 people get a lift into work from Royal Mail. I don't have a car and i'm not prepared to cycle in and nor do i want to walk in. The DOM at our office wants to do away with the vans that bring this group into work meaning i will have to walk into work. Iam trying to get a ballot for strike action, there are of course descenting voices 'why should you get a lift in' or 'everyone else gets in ok, why can't you' and even 'why should i lose money in a strike for a few lazy people who won't buy a bike' that is their point of view, it's wrong. We have to draw a line in the sand and dare RM to cross it. We are up for the fight, are you Moya? It maybe a long strike and we may need support, can we count on other offices to join us? Come on lads, remember the Alammo!

They are more than rumblings, hear a walk out maybe on the cards soon. I'm not in the union so cannot strike, but they will have my full support

why should only the 'disadvantaged' posties get a lift?

If people feel so strongly in your office about it then maybe you could get together and arrange to pick up the people in question

can't see why being 'disadvantaged' should stop you from walking into work or buying a bike from the cycletowork scheme even the most expensive only works out at around £6 a week

sorry I don't see why some peeps should get a free lift and others not

why can't you strike? not neing in the union doesn't mean you can't strike - loads of non union people went out with us last time - or do you just not want to and are using that as an excuse

why do you get a lift in the first place and do you have an agrrement to say you can have a lift we did and royal mail never tryed to stop it but we all have vans now and no probs in taking them home and coming into work in them

I sit by my window and wait for the van in the morning, it works fine for me, why must Royal Mail change everything?
I have petition forms if anyone wants them.....

We use to have mini buses come and collect us when we were on 5am starts but that is long gone now. Must admit it is a bit childish to threaten strike action over it. Basically the staff were getting a favour now that has been revoked. Get the bus/a cycle to work bike/arrange car share amongst yourselves.

I feel you have no reason to strike. Your lucky to have this for so long. I like many have to travel by car etc, many miles at our own cost. It costs me at least £30 per week of my wages, so I am at a disadvantage of you.

Kind of disappointing this thread.

No it isn't worth striking over but the fact is it's the withdrawal of an existing privilege without consultation or agreement.
Yes it may be a privilege but most of the time these were only given at a cost...in our case it was relocation to a god forsaken and inaccessible industrial estate and it disappoints me that petty jealousy seems to be the overriding sentiment on this thread.
