Reasons NOT to join the Union?

With a few months in now as a part timer I'm wondering whether I should join the Union or not. No one has suggested I should and no one has suggested I shouldn't.
I can see from the website what the benefits might be but are there any negatives? What are the arguments, if any, against joining?

Might sound like a strange question to you long standing Union folks but you don't know what you don't know....................and I don't know!!

I'm in the union because I have a big mouth and I my rep is very good at getting me out of trouble............nationally they are a bit rubbish

i took a while to decide weather it was worth joining, i really didn't see the point. What swung it for me was a couple of things
firstly, reading some of the horror stories on here. and secondly, the experience my office rep yelling at my dom for putting me on a walk I hadn't been trained on was when I figured being a member may work in my favour

hasnt the union rep approached you to join ours does this first day with new starters

having worked in this job for over 30 years not being in the union is madness, have no doubt that if a manager finds out your are not in the union they will do everything/anything to make your life a living hell knowing that u have no rep to look after your back. considering the amount of moronic managers in my office some who are short term contracts who have applied to be a manager my place of work is a f***ing nut house.

a lot depends on what if your office rep is good or not.As if he is rubbish it might be worth saving 3 pound at national level we have lost are way.
I have been in the union for over 25 years but we had local union rep election about 8 months ago and he is the worst i have ever seen and am going to pull out of the union because of this.
and before someone say i have thought about standing but he holds the post for another year at least before an election can happen.

Our union rep is fantastic - isnt even based in our office - but if somthing serious begins to happen he's always there - just a text message in times of stress and he's on the phone sorting it all out - the managers need someone to keep order or they get away with everything
