Handing in your driving licence

Just wondered if anyone could tell me what the worst case scenario is for not having handed in your driving licence when asked. A few boys in our office have had letters saying if their licences aren't handed in within the week they will be taken through the conduct code leading to dismissal. Manager(stand in) says if you have a licence you are obliged to drive for RM when asked and noone can opt out. I could understand they could be taken off driving duties but surely not dismissed?

total crap, you are not obliged to do driving for royal mail. dim is talking rubbish!!!

From what I have heard is that they can take you off your duty and put you on another duty, regarding discipline then I believe they cannot go down that road.

not so simple as that unfortunately, depends on your contract, if its in your contract to drive then dim is not talking rubbish unfortunately, so my advice check your contract to see if you have signed to drive as part of your contract

All these staff have over ten years service,i just find it disgusting to be handing out letters so readily talking off dismissal. One of the staff was only asked for her licence on Monday,then gets a letter today. Kind of makes it worse when you've just spent over four hours in freezing wind and rain and done lapsing,to return to that nice little surprise on your desk! It's said you can tell a lot about a company by how it treats it's staff.......nuff said!

Can give you proper advice on this .

1,If you have a new stlye contract say last 3/4 years saying you must drive ,you have no choice.

2 ,If you have a old stlye contract saying must be able to ride a bike thats all they can make you do.No sight of Licence ,Managers must suspend you from driving thats it ,nothing else,does have drawbacks like S/A and O/T.

Getting off driving depending on the office staffing is hard.

P&L there should be a preference exercise,just because Bob drives his car doesn't mean he automatically has to drive a van.
