SD Confirmations

Post by BillyPosty »

Hi everyone,
Just wondering whether there was an "official" line on this. When we have special deliveries we have to let the office know by 1pm whether its gone or not. About 12.20pm they start pestering / ringing us to check.

I don't take my mobile with me when I'm on a loop becuase I don't want hassling by anyone so I usually come back to about 5 missed calls and an answerphone message saying I need to call them to let them know. I'm not calling them on my own phone at my expense, and I get told off when I fail to report it before 1pm. They won't supply a phone because 99% of the office use their own mobiles to ring back - idiots.

What happens at your places? Oh and I never gave them my private mobile number they must have got it from my application form or something and decided its OK to use it :mad

That's what a PDA is for.
Edit..i don't mean phoning you...i mean confirming the SD's.

You're on park n loop,so if the time is getting tight you stop, deliver the specials then go back and carry on,there should be no reason for a special to fail.
If you have to cut off because of this you cut off.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

We're not on P+L, and we don't have a PDA  As normal its a case of the rest of the office being nobs making it harder for single people to stick to the rules. I know its easy to do what Postman says but when you're on a temp contract it's tricky.

just tell them you can't afford any credit and if they want you to ring everyday they will have to supply you with a phone or put some credit on yours!

Just tell them that if you fail then you will find a phone box and reverse the charges, otherwise they have all been delivered which should be the case anyway, no reason why you should fail.

I never "fail" as such, the only time I don't get rid of them is when the person is out. Then we have to tell them the number on the barcode.

We have only 16 duties which do not have PDAs, these are HCT duties, they still use the old cards and only take those SDs that they can deliver prior to 1300 and only confirm those which they haven't been able to get rid of.

If you deliver one at 12.59:59, how can you confirm it by 1pm? Our locker guy tells us they need to be attempted delivery by 1pm, and confirmed - or otherwise - to him by 2pm. I never ring anybody though. They never ring me either. Specials either come back, or my card saying 'p739 left' gets chucked in the locker guy's direction. Frankly, I CGAF either way. I like to think that management know that. And I'm on a temp contract, too. Doesn't mean I have to bend over and service our lords and masters at every opportunity, thank you.

Not being a tad awkward are we.
Keep phone with you (might need it for emergency) and answer it when they ring you, at no financial cost to your goodself.

That's the problem I have, except I'm meant to ring them at 12:30. So a 1pm special has become a 12:30pm special. That rules out almost half of the duty as I'm just half way round by 12:00. Sometimes I can juggle parts and do the street that has a special earlier.

As far as I'm concerned, all specials should go with a van and a PDA.

It ridiculous them auto-confirming anyway. Why can't they wait until they get the card back before updating, so they know whether a special has been signed for or P739'd.

Like many others we don't have PDAs but aren't expected to make phone calls, the assumption being that delivery is made or it is advised BEFORE 1pm which for me always happens, changing the order of delivery where necessary, except when the van has boken down when I have phoned. :Very Happy
