from a customer's point of view…
…it would probably be considered bizarre how many things they would consider are part-and-parcel of a good community postie's remit, are actually things that would get the said postie fired.
• handing over the post to the person you know to be the recipient outside their house when they ask
• leaving packages in the place they've indicated they would like them left
if rm thought about how the 'end user's experience of the postie, and less about how best to cover their arses, they might find that the public get less hot under the collar about increases in the price of stamps. and rm's policy of chopping and changing walks willy-nilly irks some customers who have got used to having a regular postie and who appreciate them (and, by extension, their employers).
perhaps if rm thought about the customer experience a little more, there would be fewer counter-intutitive rules and fewer pointless reorganisations…

Re: from a customer's point of view…
The concept of "customer" is different for the postman and royal mail - to us the recipient is the customer but to royal mail it is the person paying for the delivery..........so who is right and who has to be pleased?thecyclingpostie wrote:…it would probably be considered bizarre how many things they would consider are part-and-parcel of a good community postie's remit, are actually things that would get the said postie fired.

I do have some sympathy for RM with regards this.... there just doesn't seem to be the honesty around these days.

Re: from a customer's point of view…
"Customers" get what they deserve.
The reason there are such rigid guidelines on what you can and can't do with the mail is primarily because of the large number of bogus complaints and compensation claims.
A significant number of "Customers" are not the angels they are portrayed to be.
In the past senders had no choice in who they used.
Now if Amazon are getting complaints because you leave something at the back door they will go elsewhere.
Then the end user's experience will not be something we have to worry about.

Re: from a customer's point of view…
a point, though a small one, is that we are all both customers and end-users. if, as an end-user, i think rm is crap, i'll be less inclined to order things that will be sent via rm, and many end-users themselves are responsible for large quantities of mail as part of their jobs.
a universal postal service should be a synergy of senders, receivers and couriers, not three groups of competing interests…

HDNL are famous for their lax approach to mail integrity.
They are consistently cited as the worst end user experience.

I ordered a pair of shoes for my wife yesterday from a well known company, although UK delivery was free, I paid just £2.95 for next day delivery which duly arrived today at 3pm in time for her night shift tonight

I brought a new dishwasher from an online company Sunday night it arrived this morning tuesday at half 7. No problems at all 100% happy. Very good price and free delivery too. My point it took less than two days to receive a heavy item and yet RM cannot get a letter from one end of town to the other in less than a week where have we gone wrong as a company. My faith in RM is being tested on a daily basis and I find myself recommending our services less and less.

By the same token I ordered a new oven from Comet and although delivery was free it took a week to get here on Monday and the closest I got to a delivery time was between 8 and 6 and that arrived at 2.15, although they did ring 15 minutes before they arrived - a call I would have appreciated at 8 in the morning.happyhippo wrote:I brought a new dishwasher from an online company Sunday night it arrived this morning tuesday at half 7. I guess the bigger the company the more items slip through our fingers, the company I used is much smaller than comet. Still it makes you wonder why can the small companies achieve what a major player with our network cannot?

"Free" delivery isn't free.
It is simply factored into the retail price.
It is simply factored into the retail price.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

WOW the are probably delivering a few dishwashers a day, not 1000s of letters and numerous parcels. Most posties work dam hard to make sure we deliver everything , please go and moan somewhere else.happyhippo wrote:I brought a new dishwasher from an online company Sunday night it arrived this morning tuesday at half 7. I am one of those hard working posties please go and kiss moya's arse somewhere else please. I am simply making a point that we could deliver those dishwashers etc via parcel force but we have been pushed out because of management inefficiencies and now hard working posties are losing their jobs everyday. Thank moya for meebbzie wrote:WOW the are probably delivering a few dishwashers a day, not 1000s of letters and numerous parcels. The only time they've ever came close to delivering to me when the said they would was when the manager came in his own car because I kicked off. f***ing useless.
