Lost a packet

Post by weary_posty »

Hi all, having a mini panic attack over a lost packet....

I tied my job up as normal and put it all in a york... Its a rural job so its mainly tied up and in crates not pouches.

I loaded the van and headed out. Was stopped and a chap asked me for his packet (it was a redelivery), couldnt find it so figured i must have left it on my frame. Got back to the office at the end of my round and it wasnt there which has me thinking it may have been left in the york.

Its one of the red fabric yorks that packets arrive in from the lorries. So think its tucked away in one of those and been collected by another truck.

Is this a serious matter? Or will i be given the benefit as it was a genuine mistake.

"Was stopped and a chap asked me for his packet" - shouldn't be handed over in the street anyway.

He was asked for a packet,Who says he was never offered Id?
He may have known the customer?
I will give you a reply,Shame so many smart arse comments are given on here to genuine questions.
For what it is worth i think as long as the packet turns up again and is in the system,A slap on the wrists is the worse case scenario,All depends on your manager.
With what we are asked to deal with on a daily basis nowadays it is hardly surprising the odd item gets missplaced.

Better to be a smart arse and stay employed!

The rules are simple, we deliver to addresses not people, it doesn't matter if you know them, 'posties' are not supposed to hand over any mail non-recipient side of the delivery point. Additionally you cannot give mail over after taking a look at someone's ID both for the fact that we do not deliver to identities and for the fact that you have not been trained to perform identity verification.

A 'smart arse' response to this thread would be "I 'lost a packet' when Door To Door payments were replaced by the Delivery Supplement"

He said the 'chap' was at his door so he wouldn't have been handing over the packet in the street would he?

No, but if you follow the protocol 100% you are not supposed to hand mail to someone at the door either. But I think we are being pedantic now and relying on a closed door.

You are right of course, there is nothing to say someone stood at an open door is some baghead burgling the property.

I bet some of your customers love you if you lot are that pedantic about the job. If you take the job that seriously then things just get complicated and no job is worth that.

To answer the original question it is really not a problem as it will still be in the system.

If I didn't hand mail in the street to people I know then I wouldn't get £300+ tips and a dozen bottles of wine each Christmas, so you can't realistically say my 'customers' don't 'love' me :nana but I was not commenting about myself, only questioning 'weary postie' from the limited informtion given. :Very Happy

I'm with you LL, when I delivered I considered the recipient to be the customer, I would go that extra mile - literally, to deliver a parcel or a special to the customers work or mum regardless of how long it took and it would be true to say that the customers really did appreciate it. I appreciate now that there isn't the same time but smaller considerations are surely still possible.
