CWU ACCOUNTS 2011

We are due to produce to Branches the CWU Accounts in order that Branches can ask questions to these.

This traditionally takes place in two stages the audited un-consolidated i.e. excluding Branches and the audit consolidated accounts i.e. including Branches.

In 2011 the 2010 accounts were forwarded to Branches with an LTB dated 26th April 2011. This was prior to CWU General Conference and allowed for questions to be asked and responses to be published before the commencement of Conference.

Branches will be aware that CWU General Conference this year is one month earlier than it was in 2011. As a result of this earlier date it is simply not possible to produce an audited unconsolidated set of accounts prior to CWU General Conference.

In line with the timescales that occurred last year we except to have the accounts signed off week commencing Monday 23rd April 2011. These will be forwarded to Branches in the normal manner, inviting question to the accounts as usual and the responses will be published to all Branches once the answers are compiled.

In the meantime however it is important that we produce some headline information prior to conference in order that Branches are aware of the headline position with regard to 2011 financial outturn. We have cleared with the auditors, CVDFK that the attached “Preliminary Results for the year ended December 2011” can now be forwarded to Branches.

These included a summary of the highlights, a number of graphs indicating trends in income/expenditure/surplus, unaudited Income and expenditure sheet, unaudited statement of total recognised gains and losses and unaudited Balance sheet. All as at 31 December 2011.

It is important that Branches understand that the financial information set out in this Preliminary Results Announcement, which has been extracted from the latest DRAFT of Report and Financial Statements, does not constitute the Union's statutory accounts for the year ended 31 December 2011



The audit is substantially complete and the auditors have indicated that their report on the Report and Financial Statements for the year ended 31 December 2011 will not be qualified. However, the results as shown are classified as unaudited.

Additionally because of the circumstances outlined above the Members Auditors have not been able to produce their report. This will be forwarded to Branches following the publication of the audited accounts.

We hope the information provided is of use to Branches. Additionally we are currently conducting a review of our internal operation with a view to ensuring that audited accounts are produced in time for General Conference 2013.

Overall member numbers are down.
The increase in contributions is mostly down to the rather disgraceful "re-alignment" in subs that increased the amount that almost all part-timers paid.
Part-timers on 30hrs now pay exactly the same as a full-timer.
