why is ill health retirment just excepted as the norm
their are now quite a few threads going on at the moment about IHR.
IHR should be only used as a last resort by the employer and not as a proceedure to systematically slim down the workforce for coporate dogma
they have been trying it with me for the last 18 months without sucess because i have a pair between my legs
if IHR is justified then fair enough, but
WHY DO PEOPLE NOT PUT UP A FIGHT, (WITH OR WITHOUT THE UNION) AND TELL RM TO SHOVE THEIR IHR WHERE THE SUN DONT SHINE

Re: why is ill health retirment just excepted as the norm
I have long said that IHR is the preferred option to quietly get the surplus postal population down.
To be honest when most people are sick and especially if you've a long term condition and Royal Mail managers are being arseholes and not offering reasonable adjustments or making it as hard as possible to continue in your job, then most people will snatch their hands off when offered a lump sum payment rather than put up with all the harassment and bullying.
You always think that you can get another job but when you go to another employer and they ask why did you leave RM and you tell them it was ill health your hardly going to get offered the job.
I myself have had a torrid time with these feckers 4 years of bullying and harrassment that is now at last finally about to come to a conclusion...I was `offered` IHR in a take it or get the sack under the stage warning bolloxs something that is regularly done as `standard` by Royal Mail managers its not a case of growing a pair it's a case or gettting the proper backing off your union reps something that is in short supply in most offices.

Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Because in a lot of cases it's what people eventually want.keithposty wrote:WHY DO PEOPLE NOT PUT UP A FIGHT, (WITH OR WITHOUT THE UNION) AND TELL RM TO SHOVE THEIR IHR WHERE THE SUN DONT SHINE
VR is very rare in delivery, relocation and indoor work even rarer.
Delivery work is hard, physical graft and the damage it does to your body over a relatively short period of time is obvious to everyone except those that sit behind a desk or on full-time release.
Surgery is common, especially for knee problems and constantly dealing with ATOS,RM management and unfortunately colleagues who view you as a slacker can cause mental issues to go with the physical ones.
Support from the union is patchy depending on your location,
The IHR agreement, although decent is skewed towards those wishing to leave and the protection for those who want to stay is not clear enough and open to abuse.
Members are worn down by the process and by the end of it are just glad to escape with something.
If it isn't compulsory redundancy by the back door it is certainly coerced redundancy.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I am going through the self same thing, last week came off two weeks leave, to start my new delivery pattern was told had to take out more then I should and was givin an ultimatium that it was take the extra work out(even though atos only agreed a 3hr del span) or face being contacted by HR for IHR, I contacted union area and was told to write down how long it takes each day and I am also held back for AN HOUR EACH DAY IN CASE i MAY FINISH EARLY,
LAST WEEK i WENT OVER BETWEEN 30 MINS TO 1HR ON 3 DAYS
The bullying harrasemnt has been going on for over a year now , on anti depressents and other pills, but being single parent with mortgage cannot afford to take IHR and feel why should I be forced into it.

Re: why is ill health retirment just excepted as the norm
If you are given IHR by Royal Mail you would have thought that claiming state benefits would have been a given. IHR should only be available to those who cannot physically/mentally carry out any form of gainful employment. Royal Mail are paying out money in many cases, just to be rid of someone who is disliked by management, or who is unable to work to the 1000% that they require. This is an abuse of company money and also an abuse of the individual as it is more than likely that these people will be unable to get another job, albeit capable, and even more unlikely to be able to obtain any state benefits.

also would like to add that sometimes when you get reasonable adjustment for someone a lot of opg complain that they are getting easy duties made for them so i have know some people to take i.h.r just to get away from the bullying from our own members

Re: why is ill health retirment just excepted as the norm
thanks for the comments people
its just that i have a natural strong personality and i am not afraid to take on managers head on so they tend to leave me alone. it helps being a rep also
i have allready told them if they try and force the issue of IHR then i will be putting in an ET1 CLAIM.
and they know i mean it
it just annoys me that you give years of service and they just see you as getting rid of 40 hours, not the person

Keithy I am like you a fighter and will take a ET1 out but i was in the same situation in january when I trialled the extra work and it could not be done in the time they wanted. BUT they got an able body postman to test it and he done it in 3hrs 4 mins but not using a LWT like I use
I just feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall, I have clocked up 100hrs of qwriting reports out this last year,
I should be employed as a solicitor

Your computer should not need to open it - its a web page on the CWU site so it should open albeit a bit slowly.music4essex wrote:Any chance this can be sent by word my computer won't open it.even PM me please
Make sure you have a PDF reader though - http://get.adobe.com/reader/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (free - but disable the McAfee scan if you have a virus scanner)

Re: why is ill health retirment just excepted as the norm
I was happy to leave with IHR because I knew the next chance they got they would have sacked me.So I left with a nice pay off for over 16 years service.
I have got a 4 day week full time job with every weekend off= result.
