Walking speed used in GeoRoute?

does anyone know for certain what our official walking speed parameter is used in GeoRoute.... is it meant to be in mph or kph...?

does anyone know ??

When my office was done it was 6.44kph but I think it may have come down a bit since then.

Is this what the Panorama Programme was getting at... the pace they are using to devise the rounds is way too quick for anyone...?

It was tested in a "live" environment by the union.

Yeah but after about two hours when your gool.ies are starting to sweat up and sticking to the inside of your legs, surely the rate must be brought down, specially in the summer.

Since HQ is 150 The Broadway and the nearest Greggs is all the way down at 32 The Broadway i doubt there would be much walking either.

Gives a good guide to what ground can be covered with what load by different ppl over what time period. Best of all its got feck all to do with RM and so once looked over is a very accurate guide. The stopping/starting of postie work will have another effect not covered by Tranter.

With an HCT 5.53 3.43mph

With a light weight trolley 5.59 3.47mph

Moving a cycle between delivery ponts 5.95 3.69mph

For HCT undulating 4.90 3.04mph
For HCT steep 5.19 3.22mph

Cycle 13.24 8.22mph

light weight trolley undualting 5.72 3.55mph
Light weight trolley steep 5.76 3.57mph

There will be some live testing taken on some of these but most of the speeds have been reduced and are now in geo route 2008 version.

i don't recollect ever hearing of Naismith and Tranter but is interesting and obviously very scientific stuff and shows how complex the calculation should be to ensure correctness and also how individual fitness should be a consideration.

i don't consider myself as being particularly unfit (aged 53) but having been on a treadmill at 5km/h (which to me feels natural and comfortable) i would challenge the fact that negotiating uneven pavements, driveways, garden paths etc. with a trolley or bundle at much more than this would seem to me to be unsafe and unsustainable ?

You should do a call rate and an attendance rate exercise in the DO to establish accurate figures.
Georoute may well have default settings but they should be set manually.

I agree with this.... the individual walks are effectively 'larger' than could be walked around to accommodate the fact that the daily 'call rate' is never going to be 100%... it may be 70% mon,tue and sat and 85% wed,thur,fri for example giving the need for 'longer' and 'shorter' days to allow for this variable also...

it is a very complex situation and i personnally don't like manager's attitude that automatically you will finish just on time everyday... this is not the case and should be more flexible themselves in accepting this fact
