Retire at 65

Do you know any RM postman who wanted to carry on after 65 but have been forced to retire ? In our office couple of postman ( got inside office duties) do NOT want to retire but now worried about this new court ruling.

I don't what saddos would want to stay (dvb that means you), if I ever make to to retirement age then I'll be out the door faster than a Tory being dishonest

We need to wait and see how RM react to it...and how the union react to how RM react to it.
At the moment nothing has changed but my personal opinion is that Royal Mail will use it if they can.
I'm sure the Government isn't best pleased with the ruling so there may be pressure applied from that direction.
The funny thing is we have had 4 retire since October and all 4 were glad to see the back of the place but then again all 4 were still on delivery.

Hopefully someone will know the answer to why postmen who originally had their retirement date agreed now have to resign from work as Royal Mail are telling them this is due to the new age legislation.
Can this be right? I have a few concerned postmen who are due to retire soon but who do not want to resign.
Why are the union not stopping this

If you cannot now be forced to retire the choice of leaving has to be yours.
The only way to do this is to resign.

Does this not go against those postmen who have been told for the last 25 - 30 years on what date they are due to retire by Royal Mail to now be told they have to resign.
Is there no way they can object to this practice.

"We need to wait and see how RM react to it" - Indeed. My guess is that Royal Mail will argue that if you feel capable of working beyond 65 and your back and knees haven't given way then you've not been working hard enough and must be dismissed.

As this age legislation was only brought in the last couple of years is there no protection for workers over a certain age

Even though 65 was the official retiring age, I hadn't considered what I would do, I can still get about though and am still pretty vigorous if you know what I mean.

I enjoy walking,running and physical challenges and don't fancy the idea of daytime T.V or gardening.Keep active stay young

has their been a new court ruling on the DRA

The default retirement age in the UK has been fully abolished after being phased out since April (2011)


royal mail will just use IHR anyway

tennis, golf, swimming ,long walks in the countryside or slogging the roads pushing post through peoples doors hmmn let me think for a nanosecond ......
