Retiring through ill health

Hi Guys, I really need some advice here I have been on the sick for sometime now and Atos are now asking me to consider retiring through ill health does anyone know what sort of pay out they will pay me with nine years service and the big question what happens to my pension I have paid in over the last nine years. Would I be making a mistake taking the pay off? Nat

You get 42 weeks pay .works out around 18k
If you are full time.your pension be frozen
.unless you can't work for at least ten years.

that is 34 weeks wages and its 12 weeks pylon, with any outstanding holiday entitlement

the first 30,000 is tak free but you will pay tax on any holiday outstanding

You can start another job the day after IHR, RM only care that you're out the door for as cheap as you can go.

Not disagreeing with you . But i would like to see that in writing ? Couple of guys left our office with a about a years pay and can only do work cash in hand ? For nine months ? So one of us has got the facts wrong ?

You can technically even start work with Royal Mail the following day.

11. RE-EMPLOYMENT FOLLOWING ILL HEALTH RETIREMENT

Where an individual has been retired for Ill Health they will have opportunity to request re-employment within Royal Mail Group when/if they are again able to carry out their previous duty or another duty for the employer and there will be no artificial barriers to their re-employment.

Royal Mail Group is an equal opportunities employer and will consider all applications on their merit, including those from previous employees. Experience gained from working within the Group in the past is an advantage in any recruitment process, and this applies equally to individuals that have been retired on ill health grounds. In such cases however, it would be essential for an individual to demonstrate that they have recovered sufficiently to be able to perform a normal range of duties.

Re-employment will be subject to a referral to the OHS to confirm the individual has recovered from the ill health that supported the recommendation for retirement. The individual will be required to provide supporting evidence that they have recovered from their ill health and may be required to have a medical examination.

Their previous overall attendance record will be considered in the normal way but they will not be disadvantaged due to absences related to their ill health retirement.

It is also important to recognise that:

• It will be unlikely individuals will be able to return to their original former job.
• It will be dependent on an appropriate vacancy being available.
• They may be expected to be flexible in terms of job location and date of return.
• Where retraining is required it will be given.
• On their return they will be eligible to join the appropriate Pension Scheme for new employees

If that was the case, then you wouldn't be able to claim JSA. I was IHR and was able to claim JSA the next week (had a hol booked for the first week ;) )

Just be careful! Atos will make you retire and when you go to get esa benifit they will say you are fit for work, they are a pack of hipicritical tossers!

That's exactly what happened to me, but I won my ESA appeal... 2 days after I won it, they told me my ESA benefit would finish 5 weeks later (tomorrow), so I've now had to appeal again.

The 9 months come from where RM/ ATOS believe you will not make a full recovery to continue on your full duty after certain adjustments have been made .

There is nothing stopping you working somewhere the day after IHR

Finally , if you receive immediate payment of Pension you cannot work for RM ever again .

Heard it happening, didn't happen with me. ATOS agreed I wasn't fit at the moment for work.
