Last week I did 24 hours overtime because I new I had alot of payments coming out of my bank this week.My manager made a mistake and didn't send the overtime in on time.So I got in touch with pearsonell to ask for an emergency payment because I needed to pay bills and this was not my mistake.They said they could do nothing without my managers say so.I then got back in touch with my manager who then emailed them and asked for a payment to be made.By the end of banking yesterday no money went into my account resulting in me getting £85.00 bank charges.What chance do I have of getting the £85.00 payed back to me by Royal mail as this is there fault.

I would be looking to the bank to explain their charges. This seems to be a case of exorbitant charges. They should only be charging what is reasonable for them to explain in writing that you have exceeded any overdraft agreement that you may have with them together with any additional interest.

My attitude is that overtime will be paid within a week or two, and if it's on time that's a bonus.

I think there's been a problem with lots of OT this week, I don't think this one is your managers fault but they should have authorised an emergency payment (which would be taken out next week after all the OT was paid).

As for repayment of charges.............you've no chance but complain to your bank about them as being unfair and then take it as far as the FSA, always worth complaining

whats the point in doin 24 hours ovvys for you get taxed to death.and the end ov the day great thats up to you but therz a thread on hear about second jobs and a postie is sayin he has had no overtime for last 12-18 months mmmmm sumone tellim porkies here,i no every office is different but cum on ,and yes i do work overtime

Maisy, whether you do 1 hour or 24 hours o/t you will pay just short of a third of this extra money you earn in tax and ni.
This is unless you have not utilised all of your personal allowances, so anyone who does overtime in this country wherever they work, is well aware of this and do the overtime in general because they need the extra money. Is it fair to tax overtime? Well if someone earns 15k per year and 5K in overtime, why should they not be taxed the same as a person who earns £20K basic.

i can not even get ot in my office count yourself lucky since changes my ot has gone!

Get off Skidsys' back,as the reason he done overtime was to cover his bills,as some of your negative comments tells me that yous can afford the luxury without doing overtime.Lucky yous' but remember everyones' financial state can change the next day

if you do it you have the right to expect to paid for it on time!

Would the manager work half a month on overtime and then accept not being paid for it when they expected ( the percentages are the same!)

well ill sit back and wait for the fireworks on my comment

as far as i see it you have a contract of employment with royal mail.
that contract states that you will be paid on xyz date for doing zxy number of hours. thats basic and overtime

now if royal mail fail to pay you on the due day then they are in breach of that contract so any detriment you suffer for that breach you claim it back from royal mail.

i would put it in a letter, address it to your DOM with the relevant bank letters showing the charges and see what happens
