More Management Redundancies?
I have heard that there may be a big headcount reduction exercise coming for managers soon which will include both operational and non operational managers. Given that privatisation is not far away, this would not surprise me at all.
Has any one else heard about these plans?

I would say it will happen, that moya is a game player, postmen know their are too many managers esp on quiet days.
i am sure postmen could do the admin, cover sickness and holidays, control budgets, and send dsa back to where the sun doesnt shine,

Not sure, it would mean an overhall of duties at ours. Dont know about your office but our managers are flat out covering up the shite that was called a revision. If we didnt have so many managers to go out and deliver we would have mail left overnight.pokos27 wrote:I would say it will happen, that moya is a game player, postmen know their are too many managers esp on quiet days.

Re: More Management Redundancies?
There seems to be increase of postman turning to managers in our delivery office. I think there is 3 turncoat and one reverse turncoat.

May get a true reflection of indoor hours if managers disappeared as the amout of our work they do on a day to day basis is forever increasing. Alot of our turncoats are either coming back as posties and the ones who have cried the most, kissed the dom's arse and put the most weight on since turning to management are now planners.

Re: More Management Redundancies?
Moya was quoted as saying that in her opinion there are still far too many managers in RM towards the end of last year.
Bearing in mind support managers are the cheapest to offload on VR they will no doubt be targetted first with the threat of possible 'compulsory terms' if VR is not accepted. I have noticed over the years before such an exercise IRIS jobs (support) dry up altogether and this is the case at the moment. There are also some projects (Seg Bag) which are coming to an end.
In Mail Centre's and maybe DOs I can see a strong move to Team Leaders and Deputy Managers which whilst not reducing the actual headcount would reduce overheads.

Re: More Management Redundancies?
i reckon the state royal mail is in is largely down to the management recruitment style....by that i mean after 2 or so years a postman can go on to be a boss,,,,,,,,this doesnt make you a good boss i reckon its just they were lazy postmen LOL
we have a planner in our office at the moment,,,possibly for up to 6 months he says LOL corrrrr jobs for the boys or what,,,,,anyway he`s giving us the speil at the moment,,,and then this week finds himself throwing in walks for us cos were that short in a morning for preping walks LOL is this ironic,,,his next step will be to loose duties and fulltime postmen,,,,great isnt it.

It's already happening.
We have lost two managers to VR in the last 6 months, both have been replaced by OPG/Team Leader/Deputy Managers who are paid a premium £20-ish per day to cover days off, holiday and sick absence.
If not needed they revert back to OPG rate.
I'm not sure if it's a wise idea to further dilute the already weak management skill base in Royal Mail.
When offering VR i think performance should be evaluated, the present system encourages good managers to leave and poor managers who know their flaws would be easily spotted elsewhere...to continue to hide in Royal Mail.
If the business is not careful it will be left with the dregs of the management barrel training Deputy Managers and Team Leaders...obviously to their own poor standards.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: More Management Redundancies?
The numbers I heard were that RM were looking to cut up to 15%, no idea if factually correct, but if true then it's going to have a big impact.
