Lost a recorded packet

Hello,
Last week I p739 a packet but when I got back to the office I looked in my trolley and it wasn't in there, the item was to big for me to have posted by mistake, so it's a mystery where it's gone, I had a big trolley and had it locked at all times,so the only thing I'm thinking is somehow I dropped it, or somebody managed to unlock my trolley and locked it back up.
Anyways I informed my manager when I got back, and he just said have to wait till customer comes in to try and collect it.
Anyways the man came in to try and collect it today and they explained what happened and that I haven't got a clue where it's gone. He wasn't best pleased and they gave him customer services number to ring to claim.
So what is likely to happen next? Will I b conduct code?

I think it depends on if this has happend to you before mybe your manager will take a dim view,but if you are a good postie most probs you with get a smacked arse and told to be more carefull if it was a special that went missing i think it would be a different story.But sit tight the packet may still turn up and like i said if its your first offence its very very unlikey that your job will be in the balance.

manager might have a fact finding interview with you. make sure you take rep with you if your a member. sounds like a case of theft from your trolley, then its not your fault.

But security of mail is ---- this is why he will need a good rep. You certainly don't want a defense that opens a whole other can of worms.

The trolley I was using was one of the big trolleys with the 2 locked sections,and I had it locked to a lampost., what are the rules on that? Can u leave it unattended?

I think you can but not for too long. The time depending on how they've rated the area for risk.

The trolley you are referring to is call ed an HCT (high capacity trolley) You can leave that locked, but it must be tethered if your away from it for some time.

The fact that you have been honest from the start should be a strong mitigating factor.
Do not make any statements about how you think it may have gone missing.
Stick to the facts as you know them.
You had it,then you didn't have it and you don't know what happened to it.
Introducing possible theft from the trolley will only complicate things.

If someone hands it in how do you explain not only your aberration but your subsequent dishonesty?

I know some of you think you are still in primary school but this is the grown up world and honesty is the best policy.

So when the customer turned up to collect it and it was found to be missing it would be absolutely fine for suspicion to fall on the rest of your colleagues.
From then on a genuine mistake becomes an investigation for theft.
How far would it have to go before you fessed up to lying and lost your job?
Would you be prepared to see someone else take the fall?
It gets a bit scary following that line anTi.....

no chance of blaming anyone else in the office; recorded parcels are scanned and if there's no record of it coming back in, there's no way the locker staff could be blamed…

That would be something that's covered in training for using an HCT, which makes me believe that training has not been provided - which sounds about right for RM.
