i should be shouting YIPPEEEE, but i paid 172 quid in tax, normally on our flat pay of 393.72(full time, top line) the tax is 44 quid, so i reckoned with a grand and 8 quid on top, the tax would,ve been approx about 115 quid. how fecking wrong was i. !! jeesus that cant be right though.,,,,,can it? other posties paid the same amounts so it must be.

a lad phoned our tax place yesterday, to querie the amount, apparently we,ve been taxed on the higher rate. he was told it would rectify itself over the year, ie. we should be paying a bit less each week til its refunded. time will tell. its not right though is it, i paid approx 50 quid more than i should,ve. if you owe them, they take it straight off you. twats

it should be 186 quid including national insurance and tax extra

thats the higher rate though, as i said, my colleague was told by the tax office we were taxed on this higher rate. we shouldnt have been though as it is a one off payment, we got 2 and a half times our weekly pay, but paid almost FOUR times the tax.

It,s because this is near the start of the tax year and because of this extra payment your weekly average earnings at present are in excess of the higher rate tax threshold. As the weeks go by your average will decrease substantially until the point when this average falls below the higher rate tax threshold. At this point you will have been paid back what you have overpaid and your tax will have stabilised based on your normal weekly earnings.

do you think this happened because its the start of the financial year ? would this have happened in november ? isnt it up to the employer to first deduct tax then pass it on to hm revenue and customs therefore royal mails fault ???
