Unfortunately I have the highest record in our office for non-scanning of boxes on afternoon/evening collections thanks to useless PDAs failing on me. Although I always bring back the faulty PDA in its non-working condition and show the manager (when there is one in the evening).
What's annoying me now is I've been taken off collections. The reason? Two failed scans.
Now that is unbelievable because on the day in question I had no PDA problems and cleared the PDA list and logged off as normal!!!
Annoyingly my managers now appear to be calling me a liar.
You cannot log out of PDA's unless you have finished the list or given a reason for not scanning. So how did I manage to log out? Manager has no answer but still says I didn't scan because their system says so therefore I am off collections.
However, a couple of weeks ago about half the scanning that was supposed to have been done by our office did not show up on the system even 4 hours later.
I have to say right now I am annoyed at Royal Mail beyond belief!
Could be some other reason, with pda's like the internet, there is lag and time delays and i'm sure they will all go through when it's quieter like the middle of the night. Ask to see proof of what packets didn't scan and when they actually went through the system.

Its not deliveries. It's scanning the bar code in letter boxes on collections. I have defo scanned them. Not a doubt in my mind.
We had the same problem, after we swapped from the little white hand held scanners over to the PDAs. Guys doing collections would scan all the boxes and complete like you had done only for a stinking email to come through from some deck jockey at head office saying some off the boxes had been missed on one route, the entire route hadn't been done on another and some had been scanned early... We found that the times on the PDA for several of the boxes didn't match the times on the collection route, 11:45 on the PDA instead of 11:30 on the box for example. Fortunately we have a manager that stuck up for us and emailed head office back pointing out that the boxes had been all scanned and also pointing out the incorrect data regarding collection times on the PDAs.

The PDAs use the same database as the opticon scanners so if the final clearance times are wrong on the pda then collections done earlier than this using an opticon scanner would still show as a failure, its just the opticon scanners did not warn you about it. If the data in the CMD is wrong then this is nothing to do with the PDAs, it is down to collection managers to maintain it properly.

So the managers have just ignored it for the last 2 years until the PDA started being used? I find that hard to believe.

It locked itself in a reboot loop!!!
You just don't know how to use the PDAs, if the PDA locks up then just do a soft reboot and if that doesn't work then the good old hard reboot always works (take the battery out, leave for a couple of minutes and then put it back in........problem solved).
