Hi there
A member in our office is due to attend a stage 2 attendance meeting on friday, the illness that triggered it was in early March, if they issue it, do they commence the 12months period from the day of return to work, or the day of the interview.

there doesnt seem to be any guidance within the attendance procedures i have, where can i get clarification

Don't think there is any guidance, they just say 'within a reasonable amount of time', the trouble is no one knows the definition of 'reasonable'.

If they give it,which they probably will,get the rep to demand it backdated to the last day of sickness,if they don't put in a grievance.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Actually,is it over a month you're talking about,then the rep should try his best to get it thrown out,if not grievance and revert to my last post.

Sorry POSTMAN, clarify for me, if it is a month since the member returned to work then try and get the stage 2 warning shelved, how would i get that done, is there some procedure i can read up on about that. on what grounds do i contest it. Im a new Rep, 6 months in, learning by the day.

When I got mine it was backdated to my last day off sick if that helps.

'Personally' I would do my best to get it thrown out as I would argue that a month is not within a reasonable time frame,managers would get the paperwork within a week,maybe even sooner,so why so long.
If that doesn't work,which tbh it probably wont,and he goes ahead with it and gives it I would demand it is backdated to the last day of sick.
If he doesn't backdate it I would put in grievance along with the member.
Most of the time theses stage warnings are given,but we seem to get a lot of posts that they are being delayed,some by months,they are taking the piss and you need to keep a good eye out.

One of my
Stages interview was done 10 weeks from the day I returned to work . So it took me nearly 15 months to clear which is a piss take . Put in a grievance dim said he'd sort it out never did . But the irony is if they had backdated it to when I returned to work and not the date of the interview . This had a huge bearing on my later stage because if it had been backdated I wouldn't have triggered a dismissal stage . So it's vitally important as postman said to get it backdated because like my case I had to go 15 instead of 12 months to clear it

as mentioned on previous occasions there is guidance from hr services on how long after a return to work and a period of sickness to a stage warning interview being done being limited to 3 months in passed time .it is covered under 5.3 of clarifcations and within guidance documents. it is something that managers may not all be aware of but is there in black and white for the union to use as reasonable timescales
