Lad in our office been in the job just over a year he has done a couple of rounds, the latest one he has struggled a little with the sort but makes it up out on delivery.He got pulled into the office the other day for a meeting with the area manager and told he was getting dismissed due to being to slow,he has had no warning and no help from the work place coach,he did claim some OT a few weeks leading up to the meeting but none before that.He's not in the union,could he get in quick to have some representation? we have no local rep.I think the DOM has picked on him cos he's a quiet sort of guy.

I think it's one of those rolling three month ones,he just finished his first year at the end of March.

Its a difficult one to be able to advise on to be hones.

If he has done 1 year at Royal Mail before 6 Apr 2012 then he an still go for an ET if he wants.

I personally would ask for the reasons for dismissal in writing, the problem with that is they will will probably say that they no longer need him and have ended his employment as per contract.

If however, they say in the letter it was a capability question, then unless they have taken steps to improve his standards they would be on dodgy ground.

Was he told verbally the reasons for his dismissal and did he have any witnesses.

If he is not in the Union it may be worth him registering with RMC and asking questions on here, however in his situation and with the complexity of the case I STRONGLY suggest he is better getting in touch with CAB who offer free employment advice.

I think he was told verbally and it was him the DOM and Area Manager,not sure about not needing him as his job would be vacant and they would have to employ someone else.I'll see him tomorrow and get the full story.

what has him not having a local rep got to do with it. If you have worked for royal mail for over a year then you are are aware of the CWU.

Although I strongly criticise the union it is better to be in than out, although it may not change the outcome, it definitely makes management toe a line and think twice.

Talked to the bloke involved, he told me the letter said that his employment was being terminated for not meeting Royal mail standard, like i have said before he never got any warnings or help getting him up to speed.He has been onto the Union area rep and is getting some advice.The thing i don't understand is the office runs well dispite the DOM,very rarely do people go over their time so why are people's jobs on the line cos there's a rumor has it that another guy is for the chop,he is on a permanent contract and again he has had no warning or help.

It's simple m8 theryre trying to cut their workforce by any means , you only have to read the threads on here , I was unfairly dismissed . Going to ET . They wont publicly say it , but it's going on all over the country
