NT Post UK has announced its intention to conduct an end-to-end trial in parts of west London.

We expect it to start shortly.

It will collect, sort and deliver its customers’ mail, from the point of collection to the final delivery address in these areas.

This means it will completely by-pass Royal Mail. This is an issue of concern in respect of the Universal Service and the 29 million households and businesses we serve six days a week.

Cherry-picking should not be allowed
While the west London TNT pilot is modest in its initial coverage, we should be aware that when our competitors cherry-pick our most profitable business, it challenges the sustainability of our Universal Service.

So, while a small number of customers may benefit in the short-term, everyone will pay in the end.

Cherry-picking should not be allowed. It threatens the sustainability of the Universal Service and the high quality jobs that Royal Mail provides across the country.

After all, we have to continue to deliver at great cost to all 29 million addresses in the UK, irrespective of whether someone else is delivering there too.

We also have to deliver a six-day-a-week service but others, like TNT, can choose to deliver for just a few days a week.

We support fair competition
The UK already has the most open postal market in the EU and it has been that way since 2006.

Royal Mail supports fair competition that protects the Universal Service for the benefit of all UK customers.

We are more than happy to carry our competitors’ mail and will continue to do so as always with the highest standards.

Affects everyone
We need to assume that this initiative is likely to be extended to other profitable routes across the UK.

Therefore, this is important to everyone at Royal Mail, not just those who work in west London. It could – and probably will – affect all of us.

Next steps
Our next steps are clear. First, we will be contacting our customers in the relevant parts of west London to make them aware of what is happening.

Second, we are actively reviewing all the options available to us. I will update you as soon as possible on that score.

We will be monitoring the TNT pilot closely to understand its impact on our ability to deliver the Universal Service.

In the meantime, continue doing what you always do; providing a great service in a thorough and professional way right across the country.

I blame the regulators/law makers that allow a company to cherry pick.

It's outrageous! But of coarse totally pre planned years ago so the old school ties can eventually get massively rich when our company gets 'sold off'... (given away at a silly price)

Pay would be £7.10 an hour. Basic under performing would be NMW only. Pay increases would be up to £8.10-50 and held there unless you get promoted of course. Get 28 days paid holiday each holiday year, statutory sick pay for more than 3 days, good pension scheme, Right allowance programme for travel if needed and get various bonuses also. Until I start I can't comment on the training quality, workload, working environment or other positions pay rates etc. I'll post an update in the near future if it is any use to you or others I guess.

They've already lifted their skirts for UK Mail employees.
Same conflict of interest if you work in a mailcentre losing work to DSA.

What no London loading allowance...........how on earth do they manage to live? ..............maybe they commutes from Birmingham

Could they get TNT people to join though...............maybe they would view the representation the RM members get and if they are starting on a low rate without London loading................could they really afford to take a pay cut
