How much time off sick for an appendix op?

Hi, i`m new to this forum-`i`v been having bad pain, was kept in hospital for suspected Apendicitis-but they decided to wait as pain settled.However now the pain is nearly constant think `im going to have to have it removed.Does anyone know what the recovery period is,and long how i`m prob going to go sick for? (i`m a postman) and what will happen if it runs into my booked annual leave in May? Thanks

Hi turkey I would take as much time off as needed ,as after 13 days i think it is , they usally give you a stage 1 warning , thou it is down to your dom as to runing in to your leave period thats fine as you will be give this back as you where off sick . , hope this helps

if your appendix has blown then would have thought that last thing on your mind would be being on here. or maybe thats just me

My appendix hasn`t ruptured-think i`v got grumling appendix-just wondered if any other postmen had had them out,and how long before they could go back to work,as my Doc said you can`t lift any weight for 6 weeks.

It takes as long as it takes mate,everyone is different.

You will be summoned for a sick stage interview when you get back no doubt,your rep should be able to get you off it.
You may also be referred to ATOS,only agree to do what you feel you can do.

If it helps, I had mine out a number of years ago, before I worked for RM.

Was told to have 4 weeks of and then couldn't do any lifting for a further 2 weeks.

I often lay in bed waiting for my breakfast and the hoover comes out from the cloakroom and starts hoovering the ground floor, I know it's the hoover because of the noise and because my dog goes crazy...................the only drawback is it seems to delay my breakfast.

Hi,i had mine removed last may in a emergency operation, i got an infection in the wound was off work for three months then on to three weeks rehab, when i returned to work got slapped with a first stage warning, nothing you can do about it mate. Hope everything is ok for you good luck.
