Sorry its a big No from me.
If these are their argument for. Here are mine against:
A new model of employee ownership: No requirement for the Union to be on the board for that, we could transfer any employee ownership rights to the Union and they could vote en-bloc.
A new governance model: Apart from them being on the board in name, what's the difference now. We have as far as I am aware parity between the different organisations.
A new company model with transparency and accountability. Before you start something like that you have to change the culture of management within Royal Mail - does this mean the "hawks" will be moved sideways or out of the company, good bye Mr Higson. This is a pointless exercise unless you get the members on board and that's not going to happen unless there is a complete change of Mind set from Delivery Office to Board room.
However, for me, the one big obstacle is when there is a clash between what is perceived as best for Royal Mail but erodes employees T&Cs, how would it be handled. If the Union are on the board are we sure they would be able to withstand the clash of conscience and defend us.
