What should be the union looking to get in upcoming pay deal.
What do you think is more important or more realistic option.
SWW or decent inflation rate or above % pay rise.
I'm sure the bullying issues will be resolved either way
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.
They already have. Check Crosby. (WE HAVE FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF BULLYING BY OUR MANAGEMENT TEAM IN CROSBY). They have no intention of recognising bullying by management, and unfortunately we have a Union that has failed to support and protect it,s members against such practises.
RM do not recognise bullying by management, it goes on and is swept under the carpet, turned a blind eye to or as per above "no evidence of it taking place". RM management stick together like the s**t that they are.
However, the next round of pay negiotations wont start for ages as the next pay rise is not expected till Apr 2013 (if we are still here)

The 2013/14 pay rise is already part of ongoing talks which were due to be completed around May/June.
There may have been some slippage,it seems to be the norm now.
Attendance Procedure,Absorption Guidance,Colleagueshares,Bullying...all kicked into the long grass to make time for deciding who gets to sit next to Moya in the boardroom.
Talks on a 2 year pay deal covering 2013 and 2014 have been discussed. Now the shorter working week is a complex issue if we had. 35 hour gross we would actually be working less than 32 hours in deliveries due to paid meal reliefs and just over 30 hours for mail centres.
Now most companies do not have paid meal reliefs and if we kept paid meal reliefs and went to 35 hour gross we would have the least working hours in industry and I do not belive that is going to happen. Of course you could give up paid meal reliefs like professional drivers and your hourly rate would increase and of course any percentage on pay would be higher.

Trade off, 1st 10 hours overtime paid normal rate. After 10 hours time & half.
i was suprised to find the OT wasnt included as part of the pay rise. i'm sure its on the cards - with the walks getting longer and finishing later, the incentive to fit a bit in each day is harder. offering what you mentioned would deffinately increase the participation. at the moment your getting punished if you want to do more than 10hrs

The situation in RM of paid breaks, different break entitlements in MCs and DOs and old time bonus schemes is very odd indeed. Personally I would have prefered to keep the 40 hr gross week but with 1 hr unpaid break for all FT staff, ie going to a 35hr week. Perhaps the fools who work through their break would stop if it was unpaid. Doubt it tho
I don't think we will get any further reduction in working hours in the next pay deal. In deliveries we are already down to a 35.8hr net week (after revision/39hr week and assuming 40mins break on weekdays and 30mins on sat) so in MCs this will be even less. I can't see it will going below 35hrs net, nevermind gross. That is just fantasy.

A pay rise is just a pay rise.
A shorter working week is only really worthwhile in a business that has clearly defined hours of work and a clearly defined policy on the payment of overtime.
That's why it works much better in Mailcentres than in Delivery Offices.
There is really no point in a SWW if members are being pressured to work over their hours constantly and are having to fight on a daily basis to be paid for it.
If the union can address those issues first then a shorter working week has more merit than a pay rise.
