deliberate attempt to get me to resign

Hi all, I really need some advice as I think my line manager is trying to get me to resign. over the last six months I feel that I have been victimised by my line manager. For some unknown reason i think he has taken a dislike to me and has been making my work life as hard as possible. i haven't been given a regular duty to do and have been doing a different duty everyday of the week, often putting me on a duty which i haven't done before. 3 weeks ago we had four new starters and since then I haven't been given a duty at all and have been coming in in the afternoon to do a collection to make up the 20 hrs. a couple of months ago I had a meeting with the line manager and in it he said 'if I had my way I would have sacked you by now'. this set the alarm bells ringing. in this meeting I said that I wasn't happy with being put on a different duty everyday as I was finding it hard not make little mistakes.

I asked to be given just one duty with a regular start time like everyone else has. he is changing my start time every day often without telling me so I turn up late. It is making it hard because I have a 9 month old son and I have to arrange times for him to be picked up. This hasn't happened and nothing has changed, infact I think its worse as like I said, I have been given no duty at all for three weeks. I feel I can't speak to him anymore as he will just make things worse. i'm very stressed all the time and I just feel like I'm at breaking point. I can't keep playing 'silent wars' with him anymore. its starting to affect my health.

No there currently isn't a rep at my office because the last one stopped doing it last year.

How do I get hold of the area rep? I've no experience with unions so don't know how it works.

Sorry to hear your oh so typical situation. You are being bullied and victimised. Don't think you might be. From what you have said it IS happening. It is happening to many so you are not alone. That behaviour by your line manager is not acceptable, being told he would have you sacked is not acceptable in any way. Having your start times messed with is again unacceptable behaviour, although this might play to your favour as you will have systematic proof of what has been going on. RM should have policies in place to address this. As an employee you should have been informed of what to do in the case where bullying is occurring. Strangely, I haven't been informed of the procedure like you. Again this is not acceptable under UK employment law. The only way I can see you may be treated fairly is by doing as the others say and put in formal complaints. Keep a diary and also write up all past instances with dates and times, mine now covers 35 odd pages. ACAS - google them - are very good even just to talk through your situation. They will provide you great support.

A warning though - I took my complaint higher and only got more pathetic abuse. The result is one discontented unmotivated worker. Their loss.

Are you a member of the CWU postyrob????? if not I suggest you join asap - online its quicker, if not the best advice is to .....Phone the bullying and harassment helpline its on your wage slip

Best advice in this situation.

Also for the more major incidents, file a grievence.

The best way to build a successful B+H case that is ruled in order is to have as much as possible in writing, and several uses of the grievence procedure to show formally this is happening.

In your diary, put as much detail as possible, date, time, location, EXACTLY what was said, people who witnessed it, people who may have witnessed it.

Your area rep should be able to talk you through the rest.

And for the outcome that you want question, don't put 'sack the F***er' like I oh so dearly wanted to.

I've been a member of the cwu since I started. currently I am only being given 15hrs a week. I have been working 25-30hrs a week since the start of my contract so the loss in earnings is hitting me hard now. All the full timers have being telling me to put a complaint in as they can see whats going on. This line manager has his favourites and if you ain't one of them you've had it. fourtunatley, his boss i get one with as its him who has told the line manager not to sack me. I don't know whether to try and have a word with the main boss or just go through the union? I don't want to make things worse. Last night I was awake at 3am worrying about going back to work on tues. this can't go on.

Good grief do not go through the boss,they all stick together when push comes to shove,use the union thats what you pay your subs for!
These arsewipes are always putting posters and making us watch shitty DVD's about stamping out bullying,funny how it doesn't apply to managers.
