Difficulty booking holiday this year ?

In my area
RM has reduced the amount of people allowed off in any one week by as much as 25%
ie an office that was previously allowed 12 people off is now reduced to 9 !
each person removed takes approx 48 potential holiday week slots from the calendar .

Our calendar is now full only two days into the holiday year,
lots of people still have got weeks to book.
RM have got he maths wrong on this one and the poop is going to hit the fan as people are told "sorry the computer says no".
I always hold a week+ in reserve this early in the year for unknowns. presumably i not the only one.
I just thought id ask if this is only a local issue? or something more like a policy their pushing.

There are a number of things that an office can do :

The Way Forward in regards to annual leave is a "local agreement"
Annexe B of the Pay & Mod in regards to absorbing extra leave, (this would have to be done via the reps resource meeting in which is MANDATORY)
The Way Forward/Stoke agreement on vacancies,(how many vacancies have you got? If your absorbing them then this is not compliant).

Holiday system is a pain I mean last week I have to take whole week off for one day to attend Teeside Latin Dance Festival. I would prefer to be able to book 3 x 1 week off and 3 x 3 days off and 3 x 1 days off. (For Five weeks)

im not sure this is an absorption issue .
although wouldn't any increase in the the number of absorbed jobs mean more holiday slots would be needed.
or result in a surplussed member of staff ?

My feeling is that they are now using holidays as a carrot/stick to beat us with.
our manager is really "getting off" on the power that this holiday shortage has given him.

Your rep needs to identify what duties you are actually absorbing. The annual leave ceiling is a local agreement.

Your basic rights under law cant be ignored.. even by agreement between the cwu and rm.
what im suggesting is that our local agreement has not allowed nearly enough slots in the calendar to allow for reasonable opportunity or choice
of leave dates.the mathematics mean that it is a certainty that some will not get their choice of leave dates.

The formula should be...
The amount of peeps you have x 6 weeks (which is the max amount of holiday each person 'could' be entitled to) divided by 49 or 50 weeks,which is 52 weeks minus the xmas pressure weeks.
Obviously not every one will be entitled to 6 weeks so there should be spare weeks available.

this example suggests:
For an office of 60 people the number of people off in one week should be between 7 and 5.4 based on 6 weeks holiday
being the max and 4.5 weeks being the absolute minimum.

Yes I got it as 7 for 6 weeks and 6 for 5 weeks which is the lowest I would personally allow for splitting hairs sake,based on 3 weeks xmas pressure.
What are the screws saying they want.

4 off with 5 as a concession June, July, and August.
even allowing for a couple of part timers pro-rata holidays i think the maths is badly wrong.

Ive got to get an exact figure for the number of staff in my office so im confident of my calculations
when i have my next meeting with the dom.

Ive had dealings with at least twenty doms .
what with being loaned to other offices etc
and ive seen a few move jobs and then had to deal with their replacements.
I have respect for only two and sympathy for one other whos at least trying but failing.

our union rep has done our holiday this year and its been great,ive booked all of my 4 weeks and he is now doing the odd days! get your union rep to do it! too much favoritism with managers!
