right i need to know if i have a leg to stand on here, So my partner has been in hospital for over 2 weeks now and today she is going for surgery ive asked for special leave for today by phoneing the office asking manager was told no chance cant cover it, so the bottom line is i aint going in!! I think i might be on stage two but not sure as i have been of sick a few time but never had any interviews or anything about this, so if they was to take action against me would i have a leg to stand on? please help

The guidance is 1 day paid leave (exceptionally 3 days) so what reason could a manager at local level give for refusal other than perhaps an ongoing pattern?
There are two separate ways to approach this...you can either exercise your statutory right to dependants leave which means it cannot be refused but it will be unpaid or apply for special leave which gives the manager the choice of paid,unpaid or the use of annual leave.

Well this is the first time for something like this he refused me on the grounds of "cant cover it so no" tried contacting rep but not responding to phone calls getting loads of calls of the office at the minute dont really know what to do

Will your wife need looking after when she comes out? Only asking because there are different leave entitlements depending on indivdual circumstances, !

Yes probabley not sure what to do about that yet?? ive been told that its going to be unpaid today so see what next Thursday brings!!!!
