Our CWU rep has decided to stop cooperating with the DOM

.....so what does this mean?

We started on the path towards park and loop a few months ago in my office. We've had the new backless sorting frames, training videos for shared van working and the LWTs and HCTs (I had been using them for ages before this anyway).

I was reading some email exchange between the managers, CWU and the planners on the wall regarding some walks that haven't been properly planned yet and some streets that are yet to be allocated to a walk.

The CWU rep (I don't know who he is, I only work once a week and haven't joined the union) has said in an email he is stopping cooperation with the revision.

What does that mean for the rest of us in the office?

There are some tasks that the Union Rep will be involved in such as reviewing the walks, agreeing timings and other stuff.

What it means for you depends on what managements response is.

They could attempt to plough on an implement the revision without CWU involvement - if so be prepared for a disaster.

They could make concessions or come to an agreement with the rep and then you have a better chance of the revision working, but it will probably delay the implementation.

They could cancel the revision altogether - extremely unlikely.

To be honest your best bet is to keep asking question of your 5 day a week colleagues and try to keep in touch with developments.

What this means is basically means is that your union official is no longer supporting the revison process and anything else in the office. Hopefully all the CWU members within your office will support your rep and ensure that no one goes against this policy. This should mean the area rep gets involved and tries to resolve the issues which has bought this policy by the local rep.

Now so people want Dave and Billy to not get involved in talks. Well Billy does not get involved in any negotiations with the employer in any case so you have your wish their. In addition you dont want Dave to get involved so you not wanting the pension issues going forward sorted out , or understanding how the final salary scheme will be protected by the government going forward or the impact of privitiastion. In addiiton to this years pay rise , world class mails, delivery issues solutions , job security , pay next year , colleague share , impact to the BTA deal , RDC and delivery office clousres and a whole range of other issues. Perhaps we should all ask the union to allow Royal Mail to do what they want and we would all have a better working life ?

Face facts for all the criticism of the National Agreement Royal Mail are 2 years behind in their plan , have not made the savings they have envisaged and do not believe that the money they have paid up front in pay rises and supplements , lump sums etc have got them anywhere near the rewards they thought it would.

So who has stood better in terms of the National Agreement Royal Mail or the CWU ?

So who has stood better in terms of the National Agreement Royal Mail or the CWU ?

In my humble opinion neither.

Royal Mail have failed because of lack of trust and engagement with their front line staff, they are failing because the plan was flawed in the first place, not the idea, but the application of it, and they are slow to either realise there was a problem or come up with a solution. The CWU has had exactly the same problems and they continue to believe that the problems can be sorted from the centre, more embarrassingly they didn't realise that there would be a ground swell of resignation caused by, in my opinion, their flawed approach to educating people about the agreement, and their apparent wholesale acceptance of it.

I still honestly believe that the 2010 agreement was not "accepted" by the majority because they thought it was the best deal in the circumstances, I think that most who voted yes did so out of a sense resignation that the CWU had given in and that because of the "No other plan" approach, a No vote would have been more damaging to the Union in the long run.
