One of the lads collecting from a sub office couldnt get access to the barcode so was unable to scan it.Next day he was dragged into the office and given a written warning, he wasnt even given the chance to explain why he couldnt scan the barcode!

I think you'd better clear this with your rep - this was only supposed to be a trial and no action taken for failures, The procedures have never been agreed in fact only in principle as far as I know.brisomerset wrote:Thanks so this is a national thing maybe?diballday wrote:This has happened at our offfice also. Re: Stage warnings on SA failures
We have had the same at our Office, 1st of it was agreed that 3`strikes` and you would come off the SA rota for 2 weeks. Of late this has been changed to a situation like yourselves. Check with Area Rep as I do not think this should happen, but as you know at the moment anything seems to `go`. We have had 2 people so far issued with warnings.brisomerset wrote:Just want to know if this is a national thing or local? When you can't enter to scan a barcode or the scanner doesn't work you can put that down on the system as unable to access collection point or scanner to barcode failure so you can get away with those, early visits are the one's there hitting drivers for, a few drivers have had papers issued but luckily enough i have been able to get them recinded, basicly you should have ride sheets with all the times on stick to those time and you'll be ok.
who downloads your scanners??

I take it that the SA Duty is additional to your normal duty ie overtime/docket? And that you have signed a seperate contract for ?
In which case you cannot go through the stage warning procedure as this is part of the main IR framework and you have signed a seperate contract.
The worst that can happen is that your SA Duty may be taken from you. If they dont give you a chance to explain why you couldn’t scan a barcode, take out a grievance against them.

We have guys who dont turn up for their sa's in a afternoon. Nothing gets done about them cos our afternoon gaffer is too scared as he needs the morning staff to cover the afternoon shifts so he is covered. We have about 10 sa's in a afternoon starting at 1545 finnishing at 1830. We have the scanners, and if we miss one, then so be it, nothing has ever been said about it, just a quiet word. No contracts have been signed in over 5 years.

Hello Brisomerset, brisomerset wrote:Well 21 posties have viewed my question but no answers so far
This is very interesting because the ABC Scanner was brought in to back up the postman/woman that the collection had been made and was to be used as a record to the public that the collection had been made, giving the time and date of scanning the barcode.
We were all told at that time it was not being installed to target the postman on times being late due to traffic/ summer/ bank holidays etc but only to confirm with customers that the collection was made and after the said clearance time.
To use the results as a discipline against failure to scan would be against the original guidelines given to collectors on the use of the pen. When you clear 4-7 bags of mail from a SBSO you have a sheet to be signed and entered with registers (Collections sheet)etc also a register acceptance form plus registers busy post offices parking around difficult areas and you are still required to scan the pen (H&S)! Royal Mail need to wise up on the use of the pen as they are basing their collection rate percentage on the ABC which gives the manager a bigger bonus on higher %.
Any other views from Rep's?
