Is being deaf classed as a disability?

Just wondering if being deaf in one ear and having a hearing aid is classed as a disability within RM?

Thanks for that.
Have been able to just about manage without the hearing aid for a while,but it's getting worse,and I'm struggling,looks like I'll have to start wearing it all the time.

You may be referred to ATOS but don't worry about that, only be a problem if your manager is being an arse.

A lot of people ask if such and such is a disability in Royal Mail. Well to be frank there is no list that Royal Mail go by and neither should there be.

All you have to do is qualify under the Equality Act 2010

Main elements of the definition of disability

A1. The Act defines a disabled person as a person with a disability. A person has a disability for the purposes of the Act if he or she has a
physical or mental impairment and the impairment has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal
day-to-day activities (S6(1)).

A2. This means that, in general:
• the person must have an impairment that is either physical or mental
(see paragraphs A3 to A8);
• the impairment must have adverse effects which are substantial
(see Section B);
• the substantial adverse effects must be long-term (see Section C);
and
• the long-term substantial adverse effects must be effects on normal
day-to-day activities (see Section D).

This definition is subject to the provisions in Schedule 1 (Sch1).

even though you have a hearing aid your disability will be judged as to how you are without it

Is this another zombie thread? We've already got a few of the brain dead ones in my office...to be honest they're not really up to the job. They keep foaming at the mouth and muttering to themselves. They've had to move into management, but a cup of coffee and a few fresh brains keeps them quiet.
