Prepping Unaddressed Mail (D2Ds)

Post by Dorset Plodder »

The latest money /bonus spinning scheme from our DIM: Part-Timers on Delivery Only Duties are now expected to prep their own D2Ds!

My argument: Full-Timers had their Full-Time jobs protected by being given indoor work........Part-Timers on Delivery Only walk in and pick up an already prepped bag of mail...... when does the PTer have time to prep those D2Ds? As we know they should be treated as Live mail and prepped along with other mail in RM's time. The only option I can see for the DIM is if that PTer returns to the DO before his contracted hours are up and then he could use him to prep the following days D2Ds. :hmmmm

One of our PTers walked in today, after finishing, to be collared by the FTer who preps his Duty......."Do you know you're meant to prep your D2Ds for next week"? "My times up mate and I've got to book my meal relief yet"! The FTer was very concerned that he might have to prep them himself.......Any thoughts? :whistle
Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)

It is more effient to add D2D to slots after sequenced and non-sequenced mail has been added, working around already thrown-in D2D will slow down the letter prep. At least from my experience it is anyway.

So if DIM wants to play "silly buggers", I'd be getting the PT staff to throw D2D in on arrival that morning, meaning the walk cannot be tied up when they start and might mean there is not enough time to complete inside contract hours.

If the PT staff finish delivery early, sure they could collate D2D ready for the next day, but do remind everyone that putting D2D inside each other while collating could lead to disciplinary action being taken against them by management. So all they should be doing in this instance is piling up mixed D2D sheets on top of each other, or they could throw them in ready for the next day, but then FT may find working around them means they prep slower or perhaps even fail to prep in time.

In any case, how can a "delivery only duty" involve daily non-delivery responsibilities? :hmmmm

About the only positive thing I can see come of this is if PT staff collate and throw these in each morning and then agree to complete their walk, needing extended delivery authorisation i.e. extra cash.

Indoor work protects everybody's job,full and part-time.
If someone doesn't have time to complete their delivery due to indoor work...they cut off or if they want...work over.
This applies no matter what your contracted hours are.

Have to disagree, definitely easier to throw the D2D's in first.

national agreement is D2D's to be thrown in AFTER mail has been sorted because of prep rates etc.

Hmm I didn't know this, so how are you expected to throw off 1/6th per day in 15mins, one walk in our office has over 600 delivery points, that works out at around 9 slots a minute, when some could be jammed full of mail.

Yeah i find this and ive tried both ways. I also like the d2d on the back of the letters so once out on delivery i know that once i hit the d2d its time for the next houses mail

I hate having to do loops off the other frame, no matter who you're paired up with they never put the D2D's in right and never put the flats to the back either. Perhaps I'm just picky but find it easier have the large items/D2Ds at the back.

Thats how I was shown, small to large D"D's at the back, I hate it when other people can't be organised and do it that way.

Unless you have "down time" while waiting for a van etc.

Whether a p/t preps D2D would depend on their contract and their delivery span, the number of delivery points and the number of contracts.
If they have sufficient indoor time they prep them. That might vary from week to week.
If they don't have sufficient indoor time someone else has to prep them.
That might be a f/t,it might be another p/t on a different contract or it might be someone on o/t or it might be someone on rehab.

There isn't a one size fits all response.
