4 day weeks how do the work in delivery

Post by tojobevred »

going through transformation and some staff are showing a interest in a 4 day week how do the work in a small DO with only
22 walks at present i have a few concerns regarding a loss in either duties or head count
Also are the working in any other delivery office plus at present most deliveries are 3 30 and above
would we have to lose the collections not that is a issue
does it work as a pod of 3 therefore 2 staff cover 3 walks
i just cant seem to get my head around the duty menu options
so therefore advice would be most helpful many thanks

Having collections would be a bonus as you need to fill the 10hr/9-45hr day.
It's usually sets of 3,2 duty holders and 1 rest day cover, this is at my place with 4hr (on paper) walks, not P&L though.

Yep. In our office it's only 32 hours that do it. 3 covering 2 duties on P&L with a 1 long weekend in 3.

Is that 22 duties with the day off covers included or actual duties

With a four day week you would have to absorb some of the duties :hmmmm

without full details its difficult to work out how many but you have to take into consideration that if FTimers are going to get a 4 day week then their working day is going to be 9 hours 45 minutes and 30 hour PTimers would be on 7.5 hour days. So by default duties have to be absorbed as RM will not increase the amount of hours available to do the same duties as you do now.

Postman's rough guide would mean I think you losing probably 3 or 4 duties to make up the extra time and day off covers.

we have 22 walks 4 walks are pt ie 1x32 1 x27.5 and 2 x 25 we then have 3 floaters and we have 2 x 25hr SA duties which we cover each week on days off where the staff will come in and do 5hr sa in our office we only have 34 staff so has you can see we can only do 1 option but with a 4 day week i am sure it will cost not only jobs but it will cost some ft on walks there duties aswell as of the 34 staff 21 are full time so therefore we would have to give the AGS a larger percentage banging my head against the wall at moment because not only losing colls we will lose the SA,s and the only OT will be absence ot all help is much appreciated as i am on verge of stepping down as it is against my principles to give walks up so easy many thanks

While the figures are blinding me,you just need to go through them and work out your options.
If you have to convert the SA to normal hrs to do it then do it.
When i did my 4 day week it was easy as there was no part timers involved.

Also don't panic too much about giving 'walks' up,if everyone in your office has a job then that's the way to go,on a 4 day week walks WILL go.

but there is a big split in office i have got staff coming up to me and saying the dont want a 4 day week
as the day will be too long and want to stay as we are on a rotating 5 day week but try and get the extra
sat off its alright saying dont worry longs staff have got a job but some staff have been on there walks for 7 yrs
plus and will be displaced also big issue a loss of earnings for some of the staff it is just so hard not only
fighting with the staff but havent really started to negotiate with management yet
RM management dont want it as the are scared of the consequences if it doesnt work plus number of staff
who will go off sick

They get a vote anyway so if the majority don't want it then that's what happens.
But,some offices manage different patterns, just to make your headache worse. :Very Happy

No ,with that many jobs your office can support a range of options ,who told you only one option was possible and why? 10 hr days will cost SA duties simply because of the USO but there are many other options that will have no impact on USO given the new 1500 cut off, walks may go but jobs /hours and earning potential remain
