Really, really bad for small businesses who make up a large proportion of the total stamp buyers. Ways around this cost will be sought and found by them.

Yeah, just what exactly can you do about it?
Just tell them that you have already objected to the price increase, but the Chief Executive told you to f*** off and get back to work.

Personally it's. No brainier that stamp prices had to go up as it Is a shrinking market as E subsitturiton and on line banking become much Wider used. The CWU employed financial experts to examine Royal Mails books and stamp mail was losing n the region of over 150 million year on year.

Fact is it is still good value for small business users what else can you get for 60 pence ? You can't travel on a bus , tube ,tram or train. you can only get about 3 miles in a car , you can buy a chocolate bar or a good newspaper , you can't get a cup of tea out for 60 pence. yet you can post a first letter in Lands End and get it delivered to John O Groats the next day for just 60 pence now that is not bad value in this down and age. remember the alternative to price rises is reducing costs and jobs and terms and conditions.

if this happens year on year I will be able to retire soon with my years worth of Xmas stamps I still have in the cupboard =P

People are focussing on the cost of posting person-to-person letter, the kinf of traffic that - christmas aside - makes only a tiny proportion of the traffic we handle. Even if all those kinds of letters were no longer sent, it would be barely noticable drop in terms of the items we would still be delivering on a daily basis

Pricing is a balancing act - you just have to wonder why the huge investment in CSS when raising the prices so much above the rate of inflation is bound to reduce volumes.

As for where is the money going? well there are still some very fat cats at the mid to higher end of the food chain (many of whom receive remuneration far and above the norm for their roles) and a good profit this year will attract potential buyers. It would be nice to think that money will filter down to the average OPG >>> but I wouldn't count on (ask the Canadian posties) !!

Individuals and businesses are 'going for it' every day with eMail and other electronic communication services that are not only a damn sight less than 60p but are delivered instantly, securely and with a near 100% delivery rate.

Wake up and smell the coffee ... most people who use the train do so as a necessity as it is no longer a form of transport that provides value for money.

What interests me more than the stamp increase is the new forthcoming amended legislation on DSA.

Now that the USO has been officially marked as in danger of collapse iam hoping to see a likewise increase on the lowly 13 odd pence we get for delivering a dsa letter.
