Nothing to do with the Royal Mail, but can we have the Unite union represent us intead of the CWU. I mean someone like Len McCluskey? At least he is standing up to the employers.

Is this the same unite which the CMA are part of and supported us so well during the 2009 strikes ? Or the same union who resolve the British Airways dispute so well and so quickly.

Unite is a political union and not really an industrial union whereas the CWU have proven track record of fighting issues in Royal Mail. For example Unite let Royal Mail take away MTSF terms for all managers whereas all CWU members have still got MTSF terms.

Even though I'm one of the unions biggest critics I in no way want that bunch of management supporting tossers anywhere near our terms and conditions, the CWU gives away enough without them giving away everything.

As for the fuel drivers strike..............without knowing all the details or the actual dispute all I can say is it's much easier to resolve it through talk than to up the stakes and cause a real screw up (just like what's happening now with the Government prepared to use the army as strike breakers).

Plus, driving around with 30,000 litres of an explosive liquid in the back is not what I class as a safe career, if anything I want more H&S, less speed and bigger margins for error than the supposed cutting of H&S and corners just to try to atain unrealistic targets.

Unite isn't one union it's an amalgamation of many.
You can't label it crap on the actions of the CMA just like you can't call it a fighting union on the actions of the fuel drivers.
You wouldn't,for example label the CWU a fighting union based on how it represents it's BT employees.
I was still in short trousers the last time BT had a national strike.
I have no real issues with Unite nor am i desperate to join them although if the CWU can't stop falling membership levels and cut spending i might not have any choice.

The problem with unite is what you said it is an amalgamation of unions and therefore local disputes and their cost are not always supported in the way they should be. if we ever did merge or get taken over by unite then we will never see a national strike again and Branch's do not have a rebate instead you bid for things centrally .

Who's to say change is not good? Perhaps it may regalvanise some into thinking that they need to work harder on our behalf, and look to the financial management of the union in a new light. Maybe a new set of rules enabling leadership and representation to be judged on performance and appropriate action taken.

"driving around with 30,000 litres of an explosive liquid in the back is not what I class as a safe career" right, so how many of them have been burned to cinders over the last ten years, no doubt many less than posties that have topped themselves from bullying and harrassment from management.

Perhaps I'd go the whole hog dingo and TRIAL the whole unite family with a disputed reputed 2 million members....................in fact it's reported there are more unite members NOT paying their dues than actually belong to the CWU. However the 2 million is supposedly only 1.5 million so in round figures 10 times larger than the CWU. Could be a lesson to be learned there.................quite a number of lessons probably.
