Swapping duties due to health

Any info or download would be appreciated.
A friend of mine found out he had high blood pressure and may have diabetes. His duty
is pure rural, 65 miles driving about the countryside but limited walking. He wanted to
swap with another postie for a walking duty to help him lose weight. Both parties agreed
and no one between them in terms of seniority was bothered but manager said that you cannot
swap permanently but it was possible to temporary. Surely, if no one is bothered and it doesnt cost RM anything
then it should be allowed. Is this true or just a manager blethering again?
As I said at the start, any help would be great but would prefer if anyone can point me in the direction
of agreements where it is in writing.

TBH I think he would be better off staying on the rural. A lot less stressful than pounding the streets for hours on end. Also if it turns out he is diabetic he will have to change his diet which may help him to lose the weight and diabetics have to look after their feet so a town duty may not be suitable for him in the future.

Have to agree with Stormproof here. Yes, walking duty may be good for him in the short term. First few weeks to lose a bit of weight then it plateaus. With the diabetes he'll probably have to change his diet to a low fat one anyway which will help him lose weight.

Personally if he can, I'd keep it on a temp basis until he knows for definite what's happening with his health.

We have several diabetics who think the exercise is good for controlling their diabetes.
We have drivers who are diabetic and they would all benefit from more exercise.
And after the first hypo at the wheel, he might not be driving again anyway.

That's why I'd be tempted to make it temp for the moment anyway. Maybe he won't be able to do the walking duty. Maybe he won't be able to drive. Would be easier to make it temp until both parties feel comfortable and his health is more stable, can take a wee while to get used to insulin, whether it be injected or oral medication.

if needs be a personal trainer and a gym.
Thats what Im having to do now through rehab
not cheap but its what I need to get in shape/heal

Pay & Modernisation Agreement 2007/2009 covers this provided there is no extra cost and your manager agrees to it you can swap.If your manager does not agree put in a grievance,It happened at my old office,manager said no put in a grievance won it.
