need shorts...
but been told after a casual enquiry that i'd need to have been in the job six months to get some. that means the end of august, so that's no good.
can i play the health and safety card? if they are giving me clothes to keep me warm in cold weather, surely they should provide clothes to keep cool in hot weather.
if i overheat it will inevitably have an adverse effect on both performance and, long term, health. the dom is a member of a cycling club so should surely understand the issue, and not be able to plead ignorance as i know what he knows, if you see what i mean.
failing that, can i just wear my own shorts, seeing as rm won't provide any?

You normally have to wait 6 weeks in case you jack it in.
There is no specific 6 month rule on shorts though.
You're having your covered leg pulled.

Re: need shorts…
i did wonder about that; maybe because i asked a manager about it the day i started and he sorted it out initially before i took the rest of the call. can i just ring the uniform helpline and order some then, seeing as i'm 'in the system', so to speak?fishtank wrote:The girl's position isn't odd your's is.thecyclingpostie wrote:yep, two pairs of trousers, five polo shirts, a fleece, a wet weather coat, a beanie hat, baseball cap (given away, will never wear it), and doc martin boots.fishtank wrote:Have you been supplied with any uniform yet?

Re: need shorts…
Having received a pair of the new shorts my advice to you would be to buy a pair (or two) of navy blue cargo style shorts. RM issue shorts are either too short and you look like you're wearing hot pants
, or too long and you look like a schoolboy
. Neither look is good on your average postie.

I don't like the shorts, your legs should be covered during the sunny weather anyway

Actually you can't, the HSE recommends that people who work outdoor should keep coveredthecyclingpostie wrote:

However if you are desperate and you're nifty with a sewing machine i don't see any reason why you couldn't turn a pair of you trousers in to shortshttp://www.hse.gov.uk/temperature/issuesandrisks/sunprotection.htm wrote:
As an employer you can
Include sun protection advice in routine health and safety training. Inform workers that a tan is not healthy - it is a sign that skin has already been damaged by the sun.
Encourage workers to keep covered up during the summer months - especially at lunch time when the sun is at its hottest. They can cover up with a long-sleeved shirt, and a hat with a brim or flap that protects the ears and neck.
Encourage workers to use sunscreen of at least SPF (Sun Protection Factor) 15 on any part of the body they can’t cover up and to apply it as directed on the product. They might prefer to use a spray or an alcohol-based (non-greasy) sunscreen.
Encourage workers to take their breaks in the shade, if possible, rather than staying out in the sun.
Consider scheduling work to minimise exposure.
Site water points and rest areas in the shade.
Encourage workers to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
Keep your workers informed about the dangers of sun exposure - make use of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) leaflet Keep your top on (see ‘Further information’).
Encourage workers to check their skin regularly for unusual spots or moles that change size, shape or colour and to seek medical advice promptly if they find anything that causes them concern. Consulting your employees and their safety representatives is important. Take their views into account when introducing any new sun safety initiatives.

Crikey, is it that time of the year already?
Keep 'em covered lads, there's nothing on this whole wide world more pathetic, than the awful sight of your bandy, weedy, pasty legs, topped off with some of the knobbliest knees in Christendom.
Schoolboys wear shorts, men wear trousers. A tad old fashioned, I know, but unless you're playing football, keep 'em covered lads, keep 'em covered.

Re: need shorts...
What is it with the beef with uniform with this firm?
Anyway,I always order a size larger for shorts as they fit better (The old blue style ones that is),i'm not an 80's footballer anymore,so that's a size 30" for me.
